    2017 Draft Discussion III

Continue the discussion on the upcoming draft
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

The question: Who should the Reds take at #2?

    The right answers: Greene, Wright
    The wrong answer: McKay
The partial credit answers: Beck, Gore, Bukauskus

Greene or Wright is still my entire list, in that order.

I get it's almost a lock he's going to blow his arm out at some point, but I just don't see how you pass on a 102 mph throwing, athletic 17 year old if he's there.

It's not like that's the velocity he lives at. The guy has the athleticism to make this work, and his mechanics seem effortless ala Chapman. The article NC Reds posted had his dad signing to him that he hit 102 from the stands, and Greene didn't believe it.

But I agree (mostly) with Jordan. The list seems to be Greene and Wright for me. I'm still very intrigued by Gore and wouldn't mind him as well.

Agree completely. Also with 32 and 38, my wish list goes something like this:

    Jo Adell HS OF
    Drew Waters HS OF
    Logan Warmoth UNC SS
    Seth Romero Houston LHP
    Mark Vientos HS 3B
    Nick Allen HS SS
    Garrett Mitchell HS OF
    Bubba Thompson HS OF
    Heliot Ramos HS OF
    Connor Uselton HS OF

    That's an assault piece?

Don't be dense. I'm referring to MLB's desire to cultivate a crossover superstar, even if he has to be invented a little bit.

    A "crossover" superstar?

    Because he's black?

I wasn't being dense, at least on purpose. I truly didn't understand how that was an assault piece.

Guys, as a favor to those slightly blind to the performance of the possible draftees, are those who track able to post performance reports from the weekends action so we can keep closer tabs on those who we are most focused on?

    Thanks in advance.

Not a fan of that flashy, hip hop style of pitching. Need a real lunchpail, 9-5 grinder pitcher.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Well, yes. It is a well-known fact that MLB executives hate the fact that baseball is lagging in both black participation and fan interest. The investments in the urban academies are a part of an effort to ameliorate this. MLB would love nothing more than a "Lebron James of Baseball" as the SI article suggested about Greene. MLB would love to see him picked first for a variety of reasons, but his success from a very young age could eventually be very good for their bottom line.

Just facts. Nothing to be offended over.
