True, but that doesn't make him a "crossover". He's not crossing over from anything.

    Re: 2017 Draft Discussion III

Sports Illustrated and Jonathan Mayo are deep in the pocket of Big Baseball to foist black stars on us and I for one am tired of it.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Pairing Greene with Seth Romero would be such a killer draft. Those are two serious arms.

And would be interesting in that we'd have two pitchers that effectively stopped pitching their last season. Let's be trendsetters!

Crossing over from shortstop to the mound, man.

    From MLBTR

"The Twins are leaning toward passing on high school right-hander/shortstop Hunter Greene with the top overall pick in the upcoming MLB draft, writes Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Greene has drawn quite a bit of fanfare over the past calendar year, due largely to his ability to reach triple digits with his fastball. However, he’d be the first high school right-hander ever selected with the draft’s top pick, and there’s a clear level of risk when selecting any prep arm near the top of the draft. Rather, the Twins are leaning toward Vanderbilt right-hander Kyle Wright, Heyman hears, with Louisville left-hander/first baseman Brendan McKay and prep shortstop Royce Lewis also under consideration. Baseball America’s John Manuel had the Twins selecting Wright in last week’s mock draft, while MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo had Greene tabbed as the Twins’ selection in his own mock draft from that same day."

This is both good and bad news!

The good: Greene will be there for the Reds.

The bad: They will probably take McKay.

Unfortunately this is EXACTLY what I expect to happen. And the banging the head against the wall continues...

Doesn't Heyman generally have no clue what's going on, though?

I have a feeling the Reds end up with McKay as well, I'm just saying it seems like we have officially entered "silly season" with MLB draft rumors.

Lewis seems to be holding up as the top position player. I think with 2/32 the Reds take one position player and one pitcher. I'd prefer Lewis and a pitcher to McKay and a HS outfielder.

I think we've all had that feeling for a while now. The only light that gave us hope were reports that the Twins were going to make that mistake for us. But here comes Wright to make it an easy decision for them.

But hey, if McKay's fastball hovers around 90 it'll still look like light speed to a franchise that thought bringing Bronson Arroyo back to pitch was a good idea.

I can't stop thinking about this disaster of a pitcher whenever I read McKay's name:

    From Heyman's notes:

Rivals see Louisville first baseman/lefthanded pitcher Brendan McKay as “the Reds’ type player,” if he gets past the Twins. But don’t rule out them taking L.A. area high school pitcher Hunter Greene.
What is a reds type player?
