How a Monday rain shower led to Scooter getting the start last night:

Re: 6/6/17 - Reds vs. Cardinals

Sounded like Scooter had a good game? Am I right?

That was one for the ages. Just when you think the season is boring settling into a funk then something happens to say its not. Congrats to Scooter! He seems like a good guy and really appreciates the moment in the sun.

Also if you had Scooter in your fantasy league you had a good night too.

If you have Scooter Gennett in your fantasy league, you are in last place.

Nice write up in today's Times, even recounting how he came to be called Scooter.

Re: 6/6/17 - Reds vs. Cardinals

After mowing the grass last night, I watched his first 3 homers in the garage upon putting down some beers then had to go in the house to shower. Could not believe when I saw the forth. I had to get into this historic thread.

I humbly suggest that this game thread be copied to the archives and perhaps the name of the game thread can be edited to show the 4 HRs.

All four of Ed Delahanty's home runs were of the inside-the-park variety.

Re: 6/6/17 - Reds vs. Cardinals

Not sure where to post this but I think the greatest game ever by a player was Rick Wise's no hitter against the Reds in 1971 PLUS that pitcher hit two home runs that game!

"The highlight of Wise's Philadelphia career took place that year on June 23, when he no-hit the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium; only a sixth-inning walk to Dave Concepcion denied Wise what would have been the second perfect game in Phillies history. He also hit two home runs in the same game. "

Re: 6/6/17 - Reds vs. Cardinals

Pretty much back then, most home runs were "inside the park". I was looking at the list of career Inside The Park home runs today and all of the players that led that category were pre-modern era and, in the modern era, pre-Babe Ruth.

Re: 6/6/17 - Reds vs. Cardinals

OK. Now I've read some conflicting research that says that only two of Delahanty's four HR's were inside-the-park.

Either way, Delahanty is the only member of the Four Home Run Club to have an inside-the-park home run included in his total.
