    Excellent news.

I wanted Luis Robert badly, and I'll be the first to admit I overreacted when the Reds failed to sign him. It wasn't for the lack of trying though. Kudos to Dick Williams and Reds ownership for spending nearly $34M on international players in the last year. I'm enthused about the direction this club is headed in.

If he's a prospect on par with Vlad Gutierrez (who got less to sign) then we have a lot to be excited about.

Any idea yet about where he would rank on Reds prospect list?

Unlike many cuban prospects, very little is actually known about Garcia. So, his placement would have to depend on who, out of the few scouts who have actually seen him play, you trust.

But I haven't even seen a picture of the guy, so I have no bloody idea... He did sign for $5m as a teenager though, so that's a good sign.

Sources confirm Reds & Cuban INF prospect Jose Israel Garcia, 19, have agreed on $5M bonus. It's pending physical & to become official 6/8.

That's my understanding, so I still wonder if $10 million for him (including the penalty) is worth it.

I generally trust the decision makers on tye Reds, but I wish I knew what they know about him.

In 2015, Garcia was one of the top players at the 18U World Cup in Japan, along with celebrated White Sox signee Luis Robert and Canadian Josh Naylor, now in the Padres’ organization. In that tournament, he hit .382/.417/.500 in 36 plate appearances.
Sounds promising. Hopefully he can take a walk better than the slash line suggests.

It was a handful of games. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The fact he's Cuban makes him immediately a top 5 prospect immediately in the eyes of many. I mean right?!?

... I 'd say pencil him in the top 30. I hear he's a first round talent comparative to the draft pool this year.

Better than a photo, Baseball America has video evidence that our Jose Garcia exists

I was in and out of the my truck today, and heard someone talking about him on SiriusXM. Basically said that he is a raw 19 year old, with some nice international experience. That this was more in line with buying a mid 1st round draft pick in the draft.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.
