    2017 Weekly College Football Pick'em

Believe it or not the new college football season is approaching fast - Week #1 begins Saturday, August 26th. So I thought I'd get a little bit of a head start to alert those "regulars" who have participated over the last several years, as well as invite any newcomers.

Also, from those who have participated in the past, I'd like to maybe hear some suggestions/ideas on how - if that's possible - to make it better. I'm all ears. We've always played the two "divisions" ... the Big Ten (B10) and an ala carte Other National Games (ONG) ... where you pick the winners straight up, and with Games Of the Week also thrown in where we play point spreads.

In addition to the B10 conference I've been mulling adding the SEC conference (even as a B10 fan I love watching SEC football). So basically it would be the B10, SEC, and ONG. Now obviously, because we all work and have busy schedules, I'd still want to keep the number of games we play each week around the same number - usually around 25 - so I wouldn't have as many ONG's: but I would make the sincere effort to insure the games in that division were competitive, and from as many of the conferences (big or small) as possible.

So what do you all think? Keep it as it was? Or try the above? Let me know because I'm going to have the Week #1 schedule up next weekend.

    Thanks All

The season starts August 24th sir.

    Go Bucks!

I think adding the SEC would be fine. You could also have different users pick the non conference games as everyone has different teams and games they might like to see.

With the Big10+4 and the SEC will there be any games left that anyone cares about?

I vote the more the merrier.

Not sure why I thought the Bucks were the 24th, wishful thinking I guess.

I'm not a fan of Thursday night games AT ALL! And what is really funny is that the Buckeyes open up vs a B10 team (Indiana). What's up with that??

There are five games on Saturday Aug 26th, but no match-ups, IMO, of great significance. So... unless you all disagree ..... I'm going to start the Week #1 Schedule from Thursday Aug 31st thru Monday Sept 4th.

That's cool too. Once the "league" gets going I'll put the word out to those playing that they can give me match-ups they'd like to see included for the next week (or some future date). They'd just have to be quick about it - look at the future schedule in advance and send me a PM - because I always post the results of the completed week, as well as the following week's schedule every Monday morning early. That way we all have that week to screw up our picks!

I think you've done a great job picking games for us. If you want suggestions, that's up to you but I don't think you need any help. I also don't think the SEC needs any more emphasis. You cover the decent games very nicely.

Thanks GAC for doing this again this year. The only thing I would do differently is stick to Saturday games. Those Thursday games are too easy to forget. Especially for someone like me. The SEC to go along with Big Ten games is a good idea. We can see who picks each league best. I think I have done well picking Big Ten games over the years even though I am an SEC guy. You have always done a good job of picking the games so I wouldn't change anything with that either.

I appreciate the comments, and input, guys. I really do try to be as "diverse" as possible - picking solid, competitive match-ups, and from every conference (big or small).

And I try my best to stick to Saturday only games, because we all work and have busy schedules - but the NCAAF is really making it harder and harder anymore with their scheduling. And this year, it appears, is not going to be any better with conferences adding Thursday night games. In the past I've only added a Thursday or Friday night game(s) if it was a really solid match-up (conference rivalry, two "powerhouses" playing, etc). And I'll stick to that, though, as I stated previously, I hate those games.

Take for example the OSU-Indiana match-up on Thursday night (8/31) - I'm as big a Buckeye fan as anyone; but I'll only watch till halftime because I have to be up around 4 AM for work. And as for Friday night games? People go out on Friday nights. I know my wife wouldn't be too happy if I told her we were staying home so I could watch football (LOL). My wife has always been a "good sport" because she knows, during the season, my Saturdays and Sundays are "tied up" watching football. There has to be a line drawn there somewhere (LOL).

I definitely did not mean that I thought GAC didn't do a great job picking games when I brought up other users picking a weeks games. He just had asked for suggestions and that came ito my head. I'd be fine with him continuing to do all the work.

I really don't consider it "work" though. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't be doing it (LOL). It's funny how it started out, a few years back, as a simply B10 weekly pick'em, and what it has evolved into now. But again, it's fun.

Also... by participating in this every season, and since we play for fun, it helps to reinforce the position I've held for decades that I'm a terrible (bad luck) gambler, and should never venture anywhere near a casino (LOL).

And as far as people suggesting match-ups ..... I'll, on occasion, bring it up through out the season. And if people see a particular game - for whatever reason, no matter - that they'd like to see on a future schedule, then just drop me a PM.

I'm good with whatever you decide GAC. You really do pick most of the good games all ready so I'm just excited for the season to get started and heck, maybe this year I can actually keep up in here, LOL

Looking forward to a fun season!

Re: 2017 Weekly College Football Pick'em

Hey everyone .... I was laying out the week #1 schedule .... which included playing the full SEC schedule along with the B10 and Other National Games ... and we were looking at trying to play/call almost 40 games. And it would pretty much be that way every week. I thought that was too excessive, too much to ask of everyone participating, so I'm going to stick with the way we've been doing it.

The first week, as far as scheduling, is kinda all over the place with the Holiday weekend. And, as usual, it will always be somewhat hard to find enough solid match-ups these first few weeks with all the "cupcake" games (LOL). But I'm still going to try and stick with scheduling primarily Saturday games. The only time(s) you'll see a Thursday/Friday games is if the match-ups are pretty solid (competitive).

I did utilize point spreads more this first week to try and "even things out", make some of these match-ups more "competitive" (make us think a little - LOL)

Also - if you see a "vs" in the match-ups, that means it's supposedly at a neutral site.

    Let the games begin .....
