RIP Rose Marie, Long-time Comedian, dies at 94

One of the stars of The Dick Van Dyke Show, Rose Marie, died yesterday at the age of 94. I would put this under the category of "I didn't know they were still alive" to say the least, but what a long & storied career starting back in 1927, a year before my dad was born. Her work covered radio, vaudeville, TV and movies. She continued working until just a couple of years ago.

A documentary of her career was released this year: https://nyti.ms/2z8DD2L

Of the show's regulars, only Dick Van Dyke, Carl Reiner and Larry Mathews (who played Richie and is now 62 years old himself) are still living.

I hate to hear this. I had been following her on Twitter and she seemed to be going strong. There is a documentary out about her career she has been plugging. She was in show business since she was a little girl of about three years of age. Really good comedian and she as great on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Another great old TV star gone. RIP Rose Marie.

A couple of years ago I streamed through the Dick Van Dyke show and noticed how many of the cast was still alive. I think I may have commented about it on here. Jinx.

    At the time:

    Dick Van Dyke
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Larry Matthews
    Carl Reiner
    Rose Marie
    Ann Morgan Guilbert (neighbor Millie)

Richard Deacon, Morey Amersterdam and Jerry Paris has all passed.

In that time, three more have joined them.

There's no question, we're reaching the limit of those who worked regularly on radio or even had vaudeville roots; folks like her that started on the circuit as children. Reiner, who is about the same age, began his career on TV. Van Dyke started on the stage, I think, but again was at the advent of TV.

While it's sad she passed, at least she lived to see the documentary released and enjoyed a little more time in the spotlight.

She also starred in The Doris Day Show after Dick Van Dyke, and I also remember her as being a regular on Hollywood Squares and appearing on the game show Password.
