I have no idea why the players in the NFLPA don't cap individual salaries. Let's say the max is 15 million. In SF's case they would have an extra 12 million to spend on the 52 other players.

If they wanted to negotiate bigger pay days then you...
A) Make a larger portion of it guaranteed
B) Cap the total value.
Players get more money with that trade off without making the contract guaranteed like other sports.

I've heard the players are the ones who are against guaranteed deals. The theory being they would like the potential of more than the probability of less. I certainly can't blame the owners for not wanting them. Why pay a guy for 5 years when in all likelihood he only lasts 1 or 2?
That's exactly WHY they should do it. Only a handful of players get big contracts. Cap those salaries at 15 million, or 10 million, and the little guys all get a big raise. I'm suggesting the little guys fight the big guys.

San Fran is run by idiots. They gave up a high 2nd to get a guy with 2 starts and about to hit FA. He has a good stretch and really had them over the barrel. I fully expect him to be the next Matt Cassel once NFL teams get some actual tape on him.
