May as well rip the Band Aid off. It's going to be a story when he pitches. That story will be smaller and smaller as the season goes on...until the postseason (and the draft).
Surprise was where both the Beavers amd Buckeyes set a precedentt last year that would remain throughout the season.
Heimlich's first career start (as a Sophomore) was there vs Indiana, and he would go on to start every opeining game of all Pac12 series, giving up a total of 10 runs all season., while averaging 7-2/3 per start. Amazing in the aluminum bat era.
Yesterday he announced his starters but said he hadn't "decided" on the order, yet. OK, Pat.

Heimlich is pitching. Dennis Dodd is *****ing.
Also, the NCAA sent out a list of returning stat leaders and omitted Heimlich from their ERA leaders even though he was over half a run lower than the supposed #1 on the list. That's just weird.

The Dodd article today was particularly uninformed. Just brutal. There was a national baseball writer today (can't remember which one) tweeting that Heimlich sodomized his niece as if it was a fact (something that no one has even alleged). It's loony toons.

Based on 8.1 innings of sample size (their game at McNeese was suspended in the ninth), I'm going to say this is the year Wichita State finally gets back on the radar. Draft darlings Alex Bohm and Grayson Jenista (both homered) have just enough help around them to make the Shockers dangerous. They just need a little bit of pitching.

Good article (part two,...will have to look for part one) on non-conference matchups to look forward to.

Hoosiers got a nice win over #20 South Alabama in a 2-1 opening weekend.
My Wichita State call still looks good 3 games in as they got a road sweep at McNeese State. The pitching still needs much work, but Jenista and Bohm are so far as advertised. Not sure if I have this right, but I read somewhere that this was Wichita State's first non-conference road series win since 2009. Now, they've mostly played at home over the years, but that's an amazing stat for a program that was one of the very top programs in college baseball only 15 years ago.
Mississippi State got absolutely worked in a three game set at Southern Miss. We'll see soon enough if that says more about USM or Miss. State.
And if you need proof that baseball is a unique game, here's another example: in game 2 of a 3 game series, Arkansas beat Bucknell 32-4. In game 3, Arkansas won 3-1. You just never know in baseball.
