Baseball in College is cool as it's not all about money. Schools with small budgets have put together great programs, such as Oregon State thanks to Pat Casey, while there are schools with much smaller budgets than OSU getting it done.

My Wichita State call still looks good 3 games in as they got a road sweep at McNeese State. The pitching still needs much work, but Jenista and Bohm are so far as advertised. Not sure if I have this right, but I read somewhere that this was Wichita State's first non-conference road series win since 2009. Now, they've mostly played at home over the years, but that's an amazing stat for a program that was one of the very top programs in college baseball only 15 years ago.

Mississippi State got absolutely worked in a three game set at Southern Miss. We'll see soon enough if that says more about USM or Miss. State.

And if you need proof that baseball is a unique game, here's another example: in game 2 of a 3 game series, Arkansas beat Bucknell 32-4. In game 3, Arkansas won 3-1. You just never know in baseball.
Pollsters were impressed vaulting SoMiss to #15.

Mississippi State's struggles this weekend make more sense now. Their coach is being fired for cause, so apparently things were in disarray over the weekend. Rumors about this involving a relationship with a woman who is also tied to Dan Mullen. Should be interesting.

Xavier went to Lexington and beat #8 Kentucky 3-2 in 10 innings in front of a record Kentucky crowd. Nice win for X. They've got a couple nice looking freshman pitchers that I'm looking forward to following. Probably no Zac Lowthers out there, but good to see promising young arms.

She's tied to Mullen because she was brought from Starkville to Gainseville to be the recruiting coordinator. Cannizaro was canned because he was using University recruiting funds for trips to Florida to go see her and disguising them as recruiting trips.

Beavers have a rematch with Ohio State Sunday trying to finish off 9-0 @ Surprise. They needed a huge rally in the 8th yesterday to get by Ohio State 10-8. Last year at Surprise, Ohio State gave them one of their 4 regular season losses (or whatever that ridiculously low number was).

Nick Madrigal was hurt on Friday night while sliding into home. It was his left hand/wrist. He did not play on Saturday, and will not play on Sunday as well. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time.

Oops. Hoping for the best. He's a legit ncaa mvp.

They beat Ohio State today 6-1, and are now, I guess, 8-0. Had the record wrong posting yesterday.

    From Andrew Cyr | NCAA.com

Just one day after North Dakota State's Riley Johnson threw the first no-hitter of the season, Washington's Joe DeMers followed with a perfect game in a 2-0 win over UC Riverside Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The perfect game was the first in school history, and just the fifth in Pac-12 history. DeMers struck out nine batters while retiring 12 by way of the groundout and only six by flyout. He recorded all 27 outs on an efficient 84 pitches.

According to Washington Athletics, DeMers' outing was the first no-hitter for the Huskies since a combined no-hitter in 2006 pitched by Tim Lincecum and Nick Hagadone. DeMers has yet to allow an earned run through 15 innings pitched this season. Dating back to 1959, there had been 26 perfect games thrown in Division I baseball before Saturday.

Wichita State beat Nebraska today 9-1 to go to 7-0. Maybe they actually ARE going to be good this year. Go figure.

So, 17-4 Wichita State just joined the D1Baseball top 25 at #22. I'd like to point out that I anticipated it after 8.1 innings of their opener!

The pitching has been a revelation for the Shockers this year. Second year pitching coach Mike Steele, who they stole from Long Beach State, has apparently had time to work his magic. Big series for them at #16 East Carolina this weekend to try to prove they are real.

Is it hard to recruit baseball players to what is primarily known as a bowling school?

A quick note - The Bearcats won the 2017 NCAA Men's bowling title. The McKendree Bearcats.
