I saw where OAK cleared a hurdle for their new potential stadium site.

WOY put up a stat a while back of how many game went past 12 innings in 2019. I don't remember the exact number but it only amounted to a handful. In the scheme of a long season there aren't that many games that go past 12. Just a terrible over reaction by MLB.
Reds Fan Since 1971
But Tampa Bay doesn't play those teams very often and the reason why Tampa Bay ought to go away isn't distance. It's been a sad sack draw since its inception. If it was banging out its park every night, no one would be looking at it as a prime candidate for a move.
Side note, I'd like to see MLB do two Mexican cities if it expanded there. Monterrey has always been the nominal other location. The two aren't particularly close to each other, but it would create a natural rivalry and be a bigger reason for the whole nation to follow MLB.

I don't know the particulars of it, but the prospective owners have a ballpark deal in place in Montreal. The venue has already been designed and they know exactly where it will go. I suspect Manfred is talking about expansion partially because they need to poop or get off the pot if they want to build on that site.

The main problem is a team based there would have a huge competitive disadvantage. Look at the Rockies. They’ve stunk forever and won’t be very competitive because no good free agent pitcher will sign with them (Of note, I’m not excusing their terrible GM/ownership). Why would they? The ball/pitches don’t curve as much, the ball carries forever and their stats go in the tank. A team based in Mexico City would have to overspend by a large margin to entice any quality pitchers to sign with them.
As a fan, it’d probably be fun to watch games there though. It’d be like old school baseball at the Polo Grounds. Lots of triples and inside the park homers.
"....the two players I liked watching the most were Barry Larkin and Eric Davis. I was suitably entertained by their effortless skill that I didn't need them crashing into walls like a squirrel on a coke binge." - dsmith421
Whatever you do, do your best to not allow the struggles of life to interfere with the pleasures of living.
If Montreal is site #1, I'd say Portland is site #2 with some serious shuffling of divisions. I'm perfectly fine with that.
Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
I am a season ticket holder of the Tampa Bay Rays. Going to Tropicana is a horror show. It is the worst baseball experience ever. I understand why fans stay away. It is a difficult game to live the sight lines are poor, almost lose every flyball in the roof.
The baseball operations is great the business side is about as good as the 2022 Reds on the field. The ownership is about as bad as the Reds.
I had issues with getting season tickets the staff was not flexible and helpful. Since everything is electronic like tickets and the stadium is cashless it causes issues. My own personal issues is that my tickets for opening day did not show up in the MLB app like it should. I had a had time getting in it took an it specialist after going through 3 others that could not help me to find a back door to get access to my ticket to be scanner to get in the game.
It is a complete mess to be to games for some reason the police park their cars cutting off lanes around the park going to the parking lots which takes 3 lanes down to 2 and others from 2 to 1. This creates much larger traffic issues.
ST Pete is real hard to get to anyway because of geography. Where the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Buccaneers plays has nearly a million more people that has access to their stadiums than people have for the Rays.
Tropicana has so little amenities and things to do compared to other places. It is also hard to get around in the stadium. And a bunch of the places where there are the food stands are like dark dank basement atmosphere.
On opening day the OF mens bathroom had huge lines because it only has 2 urinals which is crazy for a stadium.
