Captain Tammie Jo Shults Is An American Hero

She couldn't save the life of her passenger who was hit by shrapnel, but she saved everyone else on board. Kudos to her and those in the U.S. Navy who helped her become what she is now. And shame on the U.S. Air Force and others who told her "girls aren't allowed" back when she was in high school.

Terrifying story, with something terrible that happened, but also one that is truly a great story, too.

Also: Planes are scary. @ me.

I've always enjoyed the fact that Southwest had never had a fatality. Sad story, and I agree, kudos to Shults, that's amazing. That situation could have easily killed everyone on board.

Nearly forty years ago Tom Wolfe wrote "The Right Stuff," a terrific book about the test pilots and astronauts of the 1950s and 60s. Shults certainly has the "right stuff."
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."
