My Friend Dahmer (6.4 in IMDB) was a simple, small thriller-ish drama about Jeffrey Dahmer in high school. It didn't try to be a bigger movie or some clever 'high school' twist on Dahmer mythology. It was just a straight forward character study on an emerging serial killer, based on a graphic novel that a friend of Dahmer's wrote based on his experiences. You won't walk away with your mind blown but it's very solid and a great go-to selection for future 'underrated movie' conversations amongst friends.

I still say this all the time.

    My contribution:

Cedar Rapids Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Anne Heche (6.3)

Has anyone even seen this? It's way better than 6.3

There are lots of movies that I think get underrated on IMDb but they usually still have over a 6.5. That median is pulled down by all the awful stuff in theaters I never go see. Anyways, I went to IMDb, sorted by my ratings and took everything I gave at least a 7 that has a user-score <=6.5. I excluded some comedies because they all get lower scores and because while I thought Billy Madison was really funny in middle school I'm not actually going to try and convince you it is underrated.

    Congo (1995), 5.1 - this is a perfect 10 obvs
    ...

Surf Ninjas (1993), 5.0 - like Congo, my love of this film started out as nostalgia for movies I watched a lot as a kid, turned into something I liked ironically when I wasn't sober, to now straight up rocking out to it
Road House (1989), 6.5 - I doubt I have to explain this one
The Double (2013), 6.5 - beautifully shot mind twister with a J Mascis cameo
A View to a Kill (1985), 6.3 - I'm a light Bond geek and this one is ridiculous fun
War Machine (2017), 6.0 - Hilarious satire of imperialism and the military-industrial complex
Our Idiot Brother (2011), 6.4 - an endearingly touching family drama with some really funny scenes
Magic Mike (2012), 6.1 - worth it for McConaughey's performance alone. Surprised this one is so low. Probably further evidence of just how much the internet is a man's world, which is ironic because this is totally a bro movie if you get past the homophobia

    Popeye (Robin Williams/Shelly Duvall version) - 5.2

Clearly IMDB reviewers have no taste.

Out Cold (6.3) is one of my favorites.
Aspen Extreme (5.9) is another one of my favorites.
Vertical Limit (5.9) I probably watched this 20 times in college.

Funny Farm was great as well, apparently most of Chevy Chase's films fail to meet the 6.5 mark

Fletch Lives (6.1) not as good as Fletch, not even close, but still some good parts
Spies like us (6.4) I will stop any time this is on TV
    3 Amigos (6.2)
Vegas Vacation (5.9) Incredibly cheesy, in a great way

Breakin'2 was once shown with an advanced preview of The Karate Kid. I had to sit through it but got to see the better movie for free as the second of a double feature.

Young Guns is a personal favorite of mine - played in on a loop throughout college.

Small Soldiers (6.1) comes to mine.

    Barbershop (6.3)

I used to watch it over and over just to spend time in that shop.
