Sin City was also watched. I'm up to three.

I can't do Schindler's List. I just don't have any interest in seeing something around that subject. It's too much for me these days.

Just had another one hit me: Night of the Living Dead. Four.

Have seen parts of Raging Bull, but never the whole thing.

If you want to see a truly underrated movie, crack open a dusty old book.

    Fair enough on Schindler's List.

Add Touch of Evil to the must-see b/w film list. Orson Wells, Charlton Heston, Marlene Deitrich. Even a young Dennis Weaver (of Spielberg's early 70s made-for-TV movie Duel) makes an appearance.

Frances Ha was on Netflix for a while and is black & white. It stars Greta Gerwig and she helped write the screenplay, so if you liked Lady Bird I recommend checking it out...

One of my faves. Forget The Searchers, this is John Ford's best film.

Frances Ha is 7.4 so doesn't count as far as this thread, but I still feel like it's underrated anyway. Great movie.

6.5 on imdb is a tough standard, there are a lot of movies with mixed reviews that are rated higher than 6.5 but I found one that meets the thread requirements.

Scandal (1989): an account of the John Profumo, British Sec of War in the 1960s, affair with a hooker from the perspective of the pimp (John Hurt) and the hooker (Joanne Whaley-Kilmer). The tone is pensive and sad, not prurient. Very stylish, very British film. recommended.

    Mac and Me

    But for real:

Even though Mr. Show purists hate it as do the creators themselves, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, I love Run Ronnie Run. It veers away from the satire of Mr. Show and goes for cheap humor. But it is incredibly funny.

Forget the Searchers !!!!!! The Searchers is to American cinema what Huckleberry Finn is to American literature ! They're still being influenced by it.

"So the one I latched onto was John Wayne. His politics and personal beliefs aside, as an iconic American cinematic figure he has stood the test of time. In The Searchers he’s an extreme racist but by the end of the film you are deeply sympathetic with him. That’s whose footsteps I was walking in.”

“We talked about The Searchers a lot, and we tried to look for room where those little John Wayne flourishes could be there but still be truthful to Frances and to Mildred.”

Thought Hell or High Water is a really great movie. (Felt the same about 3 Billboards). Here's a nice piece of writing on how HOHW was influenced by the Searchers.
