"CHESTER, Pa. — Steve Clark has only been Brian Fernandez’s teammate for less than a month. But he’s seen more than enough in that time to use some colorful terms to describe the Portland Timbers’ new Designated Player.

“He’s relentless,” Clark said from the visitor’s locker room after Fernandez’s two goals lifted the Timbers to a 3-1 road win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. “He’s a junkyard dog. I’m serious about that.”

    How so?

“He’s a maniac,” the Timbers goalkeeper continued. “He’s scoring all the time. He just doesn’t stop. He has one speed: score.”

Fernandez put that on full display at Talen Energy Stadium in Week 13, opening the scoring in the 31st minute on a back-post header and adding his second five minutes later by helping to start a counterattack he then finished, with assists from Diego Chara and Diego Valeri.

“If we can create space and have possession, just enough for him to have a little bit of space, he’s going to score,” Clark said. “You saw what he can do out there today.”

Fernandez — who now has three MLS goals in 115 minutes since signing a big deal with Portland from Mexican club Nexaca — credited his new teammates for the quick adjustment, particularly fellow Argentines Valeri and Sebastian Blanco."
Very encouraging. The Timbers look in-form and they are starting to move up the table.

After getting humbled by LAFC (in a game with so much controversy that it will inspire both teams when they meet again) in Portland's Home Opener, they went back to the streak they were on of allowing their opponent one goal while getting another win on an opposing team's field, this time Seattle, 2-1, yesterday.

Anyone on here listen to the Knifey Lion Radio podcast? If you're at all an FC Cincinnati fan / supporter, it's pretty incredible.

They do song parodies every so often, and this one is just fantastic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkIOfXay0SY (to the tune of Old Town Road).

Last Night, Portland began the first of a 4-game Murderer's Row of games in a 12-Day span by thrashing the LA Galaxy 4-0. The next three games are Houston, Montreal and FC Dallas.

After losing to St. Louis FC last night in the USOC, it's fair to say FCC did not get the soccer part of the equation right this year.

Kind of the LA Galaxy to be fair.

You got to take advantage of missing parts when they are there just like teams needed to take care of Portland when they were on the last five games of their 12-game road trip and they didn't.

Fernandez has been nothing short of pehenomenal. One player can swing things in the MSL.

In fairness, the 11 they put out Wednesday was depleted by international call-ups and injury, but that also speaks to a total lack of squad depth. You have to think they may have gone off a little half-cocked for 2019. It sounds like they’re finally hiring some people who know how to organize an organization, but they’re still probably a year or so behind even Nashville.

Portland just dusted Houston 4-0 with Brian Fernandez continuing his record run, 8 goals in 6 games and a goal in an MLS record 4th straight game.

Back on the winning track after Wednesday's 2-1 loss @ Montreal..only second time in 10 games Portland gave up more than one goal. 1-0 win in Portland vs Dallas Sunday. Who scored? Who else? Fernandez with a great strike from about 25 yards out.

I wonder if the MLS schedule makers are regretting putting both legs of the Hell is Real derby in August, now that both Columbus and FC Cincinnati have tanked, rather than having one leg at the start of the season, when both teams were pretending to be competent in the game of soccer.

Where you are in the MLS table on July 1 doesn’t really matter.

Plenty of time to get momentum heading into the playoffs. Of course, you have to make them.

On the other hand, it's something to look forward to in an otherwise lost season.
