That's just it. As bad as the Reds are (and I'm on record as saying they've been bad) at least they score. What sport can you go a month w/o scoring?

I haven't watched a bit of it. I still wonder why people like you, do.
Never. Sometimes you don't score. They are missing their best offensive player. They are a new team and played two of the top teams in the league in their scoreless stretch.
But honestly I don't know why I need to describe why people are fans of the most popular sport in the world to anyone. If it isn't for you fine. But for some reason Americans that don't like soccer feel like they need to run around and tell everyone about it.

The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.

~3,735 games since the Reds won a postseason series, ~455 games since the Bengals won a playoff game. At what point does it hit us, "why are we doing this?"
Trolls gonna troll.

I would encourage you to go to a game and sit near the Bailey if you haven't already.
The energy there, to me, is high energy, like football, except that it is positive energy, where football's energy tends toward the negative/aggressive.
Also, much like any sport, the better you understand the rules, strategies, etc, the better the game experience usually.
I'm not a huge soccer fan by any means. But I do like to go to games every once in a while. It's fun to have a professional team locally to root for. That being said, it's not for everybody. But you asked "why the fascination", and those are my reasons.

I don't know why I am ever responding to this. There are plenty of things you do in life that one might say "why do you do that, its stupid." Does it matter? Do you enjoy someone telling you that what you enjoy is dumb?
I like watching soccer, some of the best soccer games I have ever seen are scoreless draws or 1-1 ties, or 1-0 victories. Its the nature of the game, if you don't think its enjoyable, then by all means, don't watch.

MLS is the same as any sport to me. The average regular season game is probably boring unless you're a dedicated fan.
Big games, games in places with high energy (Atlanta, Cincinnati, Seattle, Portland, etc.), and playoff games are amazing even for casual fans and non-fans.
This holds true in literally every sport, no? I wouldn't tune in to a 1-0 NHL game in November and then declare "boy, this sucks", but I guess it doesn't surprise me some people would.
