Ok so after all the talk about how Winker’s hitting needs to be really good to ovecome an average at best defense this is what he does his last 2 ABs?

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I know these game threads are yesterday's news, but I just wanted to agree with this as much as possible. It's been my primary grievance for 3 off-seasons in a row now and why I don't buy all the bad luck nonsense that I keep reading on here. This mismanagement has me so biased against the Reds front office, that I'm suspicious of every other move they make. I still think this team is being assembled and managed like it's a fantasy baseball team and not a real team that has to manage a roster with pieces that fit together over a long 162 game season.

I just don't understand why it's even an argument. They both suck on defense. The fact that Scooter sucks doesn't make Winker suck any less. People defend him because they like his bat abd approach. No one is arguing that and while get evaluating a guy based on his overall game, Winker's defense is a huge problem no matter how much he hits. Same with Scooter. The Reds need to get away from a roster filled with half players.

People talk about it with Winker because the Reds aggravate the problem by playing him in RF (many times with Schebler in CF). When I talk about it it's not Winker I'm criticizing, it's the obviously stupid outfield rotation that sets them up for such nonsense. It all comes back to the GM playing fantasy baseball and not considering that this is a real game happening on the field.
In Gennett's case, there is nothing else to be done about it until Senzel is ready. Hopefully Gennett will be an ex-Red by the end of the year, but finding a taker may not be so easy.

Austin Brice and Dylan Floro are the big stars of this game. Gotta give the brain trust it's due. Floro looks like a guy who could help. Keeps the ball down, throws strikes and was hitting 94 on the gun so he's not the soft tosser I thought he was. It would be a crime if he's the odd man out when they drop back to 12 pitchers or when Lorenzen returns. Of course, the clock could strike midnight, but right now, he wouldn't be the bubble guy in the pen for me.
