Did anyone see the pitching ninja’s GIF of Hunter’s 101 mph running fastball? I know the knock on Greene is that his fastball is straight, but he appears to be making progress because this one was filthy.

Someone better at twitter than me can probably link it here.

Here it is. Sure looks like there's some movement on his fastball.

I'm glad you posted that. I haven't been able to watch any of his starts this season, and I'm definitely one who wonders about the fastball movement.

    But that was nasty.

I can't find it now, but I remember seeing a clip of a 100 something fastball with some very legitimate cutter action on it. I haven't seen him pitch enough to say, but I'd be curious to know if that's a pitch he throws regularly or just a happy accident.

I can't decide if my favorite part is Greene's reaction of the catcher barely being able to catch it.

It looks like Hunter is not in the current rotation—is he hurt?

He left his last start after a couple of innings due to illness. He was then skipped over in his last start.

After the game I had a chance to speak with Luis Bolivar, the manager of the Dayton Dragons about why Greene was not pitching. The stomach issues apparently lasted a few days, which led to him missing his side session between starts. That pushed him back a little bit. I followed up by asking if he would be pitching on the road trip and was told that yes, he would.

Hunter Greene, #Reds top pitching prospect, will need Tommy John surgery. Had a setback last weekend.

Sadly, after the UCL sprain last season, this isn't terribly surprising.

On the bright side, he'll still be relatively young after he recovers.

And this thread is now hysterically funny.

Well, it's the world's most bizarre case of stomach flu. That's for sure.
