    Ugh. Walk, triple. 3-1 D'Backs.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Technically a double, and to 3rd on the throw to the plate.

This is what scares me about Castillo:

    Castillo Spin rate: 2,229

    League Average Spin rate: 2,262

So, basically, he’s throwing a straight as an arrow 96 mph fastball and doesn’t have a decent third pitch.
What would you say.....ya do here?

Watching the pitches to Lamb where they're obviously trying to go up and in, it seems like Castillo is trying too hard to hit his spot.

    4-1 D'Backs.

Not hard to see why he has an ERA approaching 6.

Castillo isn’t as bad as his ERA this season, and not as good as his ERA last season. My guess is he has a Homer Bailey type career. An overall mid rotation starter that has some brilliant moments during a nice career.

Do you hope you are right about him? Are you actively rooting against him?

Admittedly, today isn't a good look for him. But I don't know how you can watch Castillo over the last ~12 months and have anything but hope in the guy and his high ceiling.

That third pitch, the slider, has been his best pitch this season according to Fangraphs. We know what the changeup can do. He's struggling with location and command on the fastball. He's young, it happens.

Look through this article if you really need to remind yourself that, yes, he has great stuff

I don’t care about the spin rate as much as deception....and he doesn’t have much at all

yeah in fariness IIRC that was one of the things places like fangraphs and somewhere else over the winter were still saying he might be a bullpen guy for was the spin/movement on his FB

When you first get hit like that, all the nerve endings overload and you can barely move. Then they settle down, and you feel fine.

Of course, tomorrow is when the soreness will settle in.
