    Re: Official 2018 Draft Day 1 Thread

    In this relatively weak draft, with the Reds still trying to find their rear ends in this rebuild, its more important than ever IMO to not whiff on their 1st round pick. I'd absolutely take Singer all day everyday at this point in time if he's available, and I wouldn't think twice about it.

    That's where I'm at and I think it's where the Reds are too. Unless Singer AND Madrigal are there...rumor is they're on both fairly heavy. Take your highest guy on the board or the next one down who fits org need better?

    Yea it surprised me to see him rated that high. It looked like a pretty week 1st round (some draftniks could probably comment more) with the exception of Strasburg and Trout. You have a sure fire HOF and a generational type of pitcher siting there at #1, but the rest of the draft looks to be kinda meh. Its one of those things where you say, yea they made a nice pick, but its also a guy no one is really clamoring to have on their team right now.

    @benihana

    If you are correct, and I have no reason not to believe since I don't follow this all that much, why not go with the Cubs strategy of drafting hitting and trading for pitching? The question I would be asking is, can this guy we draft #5 overall become a #2 type starter or better? If not, draft hitting. If we believe he has upside then go with the pitching.

    As someone who followed Singer for 3 years, I hope the Reds draft India.

    It's easy to trade for pitching when you can afford to pay free agent pitching prices. It's not as easy to trade for pitching when you can't.

    Agreed, I'm all for the high floor in this draft. We went for the highest ceiling imaginable last year.

    It sounds like there are no deals done in the top 10, at least as of about an hour ago. Bit of a stalemate around the league waiting for the top few picks to play out because advisers don’t like cutting contingent deals (ie deal at $X, as long as Y player isn’t there)

    Everyone but you eh? Put a lime in some tonic water and lets have a toast..

    For the life of me, I don't understand drafting India with the current logjam.. Just doesn't make much sense to me.

    Possibly the highest floor of the draft. Absolutely raking in the SEC. He's not a pitcher so the Reds can't mess him up?
