Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

    Apparently a suicide.

What is up with all these celebrities committing suicide?

People suffering with depression often commit suicide. The celebs just stand out more.

Loved this guy. I think the greatest trait any person can have is being curious about the world and he personified that perfectly.

If someone whose job it was to travel the world eating amazing food could commit suicide, then we are all vulnerable. A tragic loss. RIP Anthony Bourdain

So bummed about this, what a loss.

I do wonder about heroin specifically. It seems like the one drug that just can't be beat. Even if you overcome the addiction, it's effects are lifelong.

No I definitely get it. Just seems like the last 2-3 years especially has had a rash of them.

I read the other day where across the country the rate is up ~25% and as much as 30% in some states. Absolutely terrifying.

I talked to a Veteran who served in Nam as a Corpsman and ended up getting hooked on heroin years later...He told me it was the greatest high he ever experienced and he subsequently spent the rest of his life chasing that feeling again. He never came close and his life ended up crashing and burning all around him. Very sad.

Mental health doesn't care about those things. We need to find a way to get people the help that they need.

He's a New York chef turned tell-all author turned TV food and travel documentary host. But that description of him and the description of his show sell both way short.

Parts Unknown is some of the best TV created this century. I have one show on my DVR, and this is it.

All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

And continued to drink. Not to blame Anthony Bourdain because obviously it’s a hell of an illness to be consumed by, but I imagine that will likely serve as an eye opener to many who are in recovery that still need to go all the way with it the way Anthony was unable to or thought he didn’t need to, for whatever reason.
