We don't even have a real clue what kind of player Herrera can be.

He isn't going to be a FA until after the 2023 season.

He's 24.

And we're talking about trading him already for B-/C+ prospects? That seems silly.

Sure, if you can turn him into a Top 100 prospect like Gimenez, who is 5 years younger and already experienced a little of AA, PLUS a B-/C+ guy, go ahead.

But a few C+ guys or something like that? Sure seems like a waste of a guy who's in the bigs right now, and who could turn out to be a solid 2B for several years.

I think this is overstated, the idea that three more weeks in AAA makes any particular difference for a player who already had 250 games and over 1000 PAs in AAA under his belt.

I find it incredibly ironic, and humorous, that many on Redszone are willing to give up on Herrera (or have their minds made up on his future contributions).

And there's Scooter out there playing 2B for the [S]Brewers[/S] Reds.

I'd offer him back for an Anthony Kay or SS prospect Andres Gimenez...or a pair like Bashlor and Bautista...the Mets system is deep in B-, C+ prospects, just not any headliners

No team is giving up a 19 year old shortstop who is scooting through the minors and playing well for a guy they traded for a rental and then could have had as a DFA candidate in the off-season.

It goes back to the age old question to ask yourself...why would the team on the other side do the deal?
