    Applebees is pretty bla though.
What do you order at Chili's that you can't get a better version of (likely for cheaper) somewhere else? The only thing a Chili's is good for is a corporate lunch because it doesn't offend anybody's sensibilities and it's a great place to make business deals...

I like Chili's fine, but if someone took me there for a "corporate lunch" I would lose a lot of respect for that person.

I'm going to need more details here.

How many people attend a "corporate lunch"? What exactly is a corporate lunch? Like, are we having a lunch meeting, a lunch just as appreciation for the work we've done, are we taking a client meeting kind of lunch?

My intention was to describe lunches where groups of corporate coworkers go out together (as I have experienced this firsthand on multiple occasions). There should be some sort of math equation for it, but as the number of corporate drones attending a group lunch increases, the probability of the restaurant chosen being decent decreases proportionately. Once you reach a critical mass of corporate drones (~6 in my experience) you end up somewhere roughly as bland as a Chili's, as it's all but guaranteed at least one member of the group doesn't like spicy food, only eats chicken, etc...

Avoid corporate lunches and corporate restaurants... most of all avoid eating in groups larger than 4 people, better yet leave the office and get away from those people, they are with you all day... this is your chance to be alone... sweet time alone!!

Some people actually like their co-workers. Or at least some of them.

Eh, My parents, for example, write off entire cuisines such as Thai, Indian, etc because they broadly paint them as too spicy, even though there is a difference between spice and heat. Is it the heat that bothers you?

I live that hell, except my father starts at Italian and goes straight to American Standard fare, nothing else exists

Trust me, I practice what you preach. I like to go to nearby Indian buffet that specializes in South Indian vegetarian dishes about once a week. I haven't found a coworker willing to join me, which is a great excuse when I'm questioned why I'm not using my lunch hour to network with colleagues...

I enjoy eating with people I like.

But generally not at Chili's or IHOP.

Well I can't even get my dad to eat pasta, it's all meat and potatoes with that man. If we lived in a country with a steep traditional cuisine I'd be more understanding, but what makes America's food offerings special is its diversity, not its adherence to strict culinary traditions. To avoid that is to avoid what makes it great...
