    More 90s:

Sneakers (1992) - The first film to really do cyberpunk correctly, and addresses issues we're still addressing 25+ years later
Enemy of the State (1998) - Addresses cyber security and privacy issues we're still addressing today
Saving Private Ryan (1998) was an achievement

I'll give the 80s the best sports movie of all time in Bull Durham (1988).

Something happened between the 80s and 90s in regard to the pace of the movies in general. Not all at once, but when the 80s began, it was like it was 1980s and before, and by the time the 90s were over, it was like it has been ever since.

Even classics like Taxi Driver or whatever. I can't make it all the way through anything. Almost everything before the mid-80s just drags and drags.

MTV happened. Movies adapted to the faster pace.

Is it just me or did half the movies in the 80's open with a guy riding a bike through town?

I guess someone figured out that was a good way to give an idea of the setting while signalling that the protaganist is a free spirit.

    Like this 80s "classic":

While there were exceptions, the eighties were to movies what hair metal was to rock.

Best boat movies from the 80's: Overboard, Jaws 3-D, Das Boot
Best boat movies from the 90's: Titanic, U-571, Down Periscope (clearly I'm counting submarines as boats), The Hunt for Red October, SPEED 2, CAPTAIN RON, WATERWORLD

Clearly the 90s had better boat movies.

I don't know. I think Das Boot alone makes up in quality what the '90s had in quanity.

    You forgot Cabin Boy.

Wait, that goes against my argument. Scratch that one!
