Minor League Games of 7/27/18 (Friday)

With the call-up of Keury Mella, it could be a bullpen day for Louisville.

Zack Weiss started the game for the Bats. Weiss surrendered a leadoff homer. After retiring the next two batters, Weiss has now walked the bases full. A single has brought home a pair, making it 3-0. Weiss sits at 35 pitches.

Zack is having a shower now. Jesus Reyes is on in relief.

NOTE: The leadoff home run came off the bat of former wunderkind and now used-up, 24-year-old, Byron Buxton.

    Whatever happened to Byron Buxton?
Whatever happened to the guy on the wall?
Where did he go to, if he could not fall?
They tell you they don't know.
    They don't know at all.

Rookie Davis gets the start for Pensacola.
Daytona will send nobody to the mound. Their contest was postponed.
Dayton's Packy Naughton has pitched a scoreless first.
Greenville has Josiah Gray doing the dealing.
Billings will start James 'Yoyo' Marinan to the hill. He is due for a good start this time out.
AZL Reds, well, it doesn't really matter. When you are 5-24, the point becomes moot.

Lest your eyes deceive you, Allan Beltre did not start both games of a doubleheader for the DSL Reds. The first contest was the completion of a previously suspended affair.

Rookie Davis allows a first-inning shot by Brent Rooker. Don't feel too badly, Rookie, he does that to everyone - 20 on the season for Rooker.

I'm in jax's watching AA tilt between Miami and Tampa Bay teams. About 2 scouts here. I assume that is about normal.

Cedrola (1) with a slam. Downs (11) follows with a solo shot. Dayton grabs an 8-6 lead late.

I have never been to a minor league game when there wasn’t at least two to four scouts. Last week I was at the Greeneville game in Elizabethton, TN and there was at least four there for a rookie ball game. I would say very normal.

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...

I know it was called a promotion but they are considered to be the same level. Plus the SEC is arguably better then rookie league so I would like to see India at Dayton. That's where the challenge starts IMO.

Apparently any hope that Rookie Davis could come right back and step into rotation in August are dashed.

Did anyone not related to Rookie Davis actually think that was possible?
