Minor League Games of 9/1/18 (Saturday)

It looks like we have ourselves a bullpen night for Louisville. Juan Martinez will be first man up for the Bats. Louisville will trot out a Martinez (Juan) and Martinez (Valentin) battery. John Sansone will make his first appearance in a Louisville uniform.

I count 3 games left on the regular season schedule for the Wahoos. They are a game-and-a-half up in the race for the second division playoff spot. Tony Santillan gets the nod. Santillan is working on back-to-back strong starting efforts. Chris Okey probably has 2 starts left. He will need to go 3 for 8 or better to finish the season at or above .200. The Blue Fish will need 2 victories (or better) to finish the season above .500.

Daytona has clinched both a playoff spot and a winning record for 2018. They will be at Clearwater on Tuesday night to begin their best-of-three playoff series. Tonight, Wennington Romero, will be pitching for the Tortugas. I think.

The Dragons have been eliminated from postseason play. That will not stop Jared Solomon from giving his best effort. This will be his sixth start since being promoted from Billings. It hasn't been pretty. Ryan Nutof is off to Daytona.

Billings has picked an opportune to get hot, winning 5 of their previous 6 contests. They will hand the ball to erstwhile ace, James Marinan. The Mustangs are knocking on the postseason door, owning a 4-game lead with 6 to play (all against last place Great Falls).

Juan Martinez got lit up, and he didn't. He struck out 5 batters in his 2 innings. He also allowed 5 hits.
Rob Wooten is seeing some action. 1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H.

Bats have 2 hits so far. Josh VanMeter with his obligatory extra-base knock, this time a triple.
    Valentin Martinez has singled.

Louisville trails 5-1 in the top of the 4th.

Pensacola is doing some damage in the top of the 1st. Friedl walk and stolen base (18). Nay run-scoring double. Aquino 2-run bomb (19). Shed Long was drilled after the home run. He also has a stolen base (18).

    Daytona is down 5-3.
Wennington Romero surrendere 9 hits and 3 walks in 3.2 innings. He was charged with all 5 runs.
Ryan Nutof, just up from Dayton, has been reached for 5 hits in 1.2 innings. Somehow, he hasn't allowed any runs to cross the plate yet. Make that 6 hits and 1 run.

Daytona has rapped out 6 hits, all singles. Two came off the bat of the world's biggest judy - Bruce Yari.

Dayton trails 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd.
Jonathan India led the game off with his second home run as a Dragon.

Jared Solomon has yielded 3 hits, 4 walks and a hit batsman. Bowling Green has the bases loaded with one out. It could get ugly.

Aristides Aquino blasts his second of the game, and 20th on the season. The 2-run shot gave Pensacola a short-lived 6-3 lead. Tennessee came right back and scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game up. Tennessee has the bases loaded with 2 outs.

    Louisville is defeated 5-2.

About the only interesting item is how badly Taylor Sparks has been as a bat. He wore the Golden Sombrero tonight - 4 trips to the plate, 4 strike outs. His batting line in AAA: .117/.165/.267/.432. Sparks has fanned a ridiculous 48.8% of the time while at Louisville (62-127).

Dunedin scored in 6 of 8 innings while routing Daytona 9-3. Nothing to see here either.

Dayton came up with a 3-spot in the 7th to tie the contest at 4 apiece.
Sugilio and Lopez singled in front of Reshard Munroe's 3-run poke (3).

Jose Garcia doubles home India (HBP) to give the Dragons the lead in the 8th. That extends Garcia's hitting streak to 16 games, 5th longest in Dayton history.

    Billings is shut out 7-0.
Mariel Bautista collected the second and final hit for the Mustangs, an infield single to the left side in the seventh. Bautista is now on a Pioneer League-best 22-game hitting streak.
