Re: It's time for the Affiliation Shuffle Again

The A's move their AAA team to Las Vegas, the Brewers replace the departed AA team in San Antonio with their AAA affiliate. And Houston indeed stole Round Rock from the Rangers.

So Colorado Springs loses a franchise I guess?

At the Baseball Digest version of the listing, they show the speculation for Pensacola down to Twins and A's. And they show Tennessee likely to stay Cubs. Which means (if they are right) that Reds would be Chattanooga or Midland Texas.

I saw where the Nationals AAA team is going to be in Fresno. Super convenient to call up a guy from there.

Chattanooga seems way more desirable than Midland, TX.

Blue Wahoos to decide between Reds, Twins or Padres as MLB affiliate

Studer and Griffith have outlined their top 10 priorities in a business proposal to teams.

"When I met with the Twins, they said we were a breath of fresh air," Studer said. "They said they never had a minor league team owner say he doesn't care about wins or losses ... that he wants the other stuff.

"I'm more worried about, 'Will you help my brand? And, can I help your brand?.' You go to Yankee Stadium, for example, and on their video board every game they say what's happening on the farm (minor league affiliates).

"The Yankees let people know at their games about their minor league teams."

Studer pointed out the Milwaukee Brewers sell Biloxi Shuckers merchandise at their main gift shop at Milwaukee's Miller Park.

"Now, I'm sure if you ask the Brewers, they probably don't do a lot of sales of Shuckers' merchandise at their ballpark, but it's very neat to walk in their shop and see Shuckers jerseys hanging up," Studer said. "That's the kind of thing ... the business end of it, that we are interested in."

I thought the Reds did a pretty good job letting people know about the Wahoos and the affiliates, its basically something you need to do during a rebuild. Kind of get the impression from this that the Wahoos people just want something more 'big time' than Cincinnati, even if that's just Minneapolis or San Diego and not New York or L.A.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

It's sad that it takes the Reds to meet after the expiration of the agreement to find out what the minor league franchise wants. We should have a person whose job it is to be a liaison with the minor league clubs. To be in constant contact, asking "what can we do to make this better for you"?

Twins make the most sense for Pensacola.

Reds make the most sense for Chattanooga.

San Diego in the mix for Pensacola makes things interesting. If they get that spot then Amarillo is on the board for MIN, OAK and Cincinnati.

Chattanooga makes a ton of sense for Cincinnati, but if Minnesota sweeps in, that leaves Amarillo as a possibility.

We are probably keeping SD, but if they do go, I'd bet we get Oakland. Still the possibility of the Reds AA affiliate here has me a little excited.

A hole in the ground with a sharp stick at the bottom is more desirable than Midland.

There is a saying about Midland... "There's a pretty girl behind every tree. There ain't no trees."

You can listen to a 12 minute interview with the Pensacola president discussing the franchise search. If I was forced to guess on the frontrunner it's the Twins.

It seems that the Reds are out in Pensacola. And Bill Vilona of the Pensacola News Journal seems pretty confident they are heading to Chattanooga. I've reached out to the Reds for comment on that, but it's been all of five minutes, so I'm not surprised that I have not heard back yet.

I love the Chattanooga park, and it's in a great location.

    At least it's not Amarillo.

The park is nice enough. But their lack of MiLBtv (literally the only Double-A team without it) might kill me. If that's where they wind up, I'm going to be sending emails to find out how to make them forcibly get it put in.
