I am entering my first year of paying attention to the NHL. I got hooked during last year's playoffs.
A couple of notes from the first two nights: the Caps play at a different speed than other teams I've seen in the league. The CBJ do not have much offensive structure. And I do not understand how the interference rule makes sense. There is stuff going on all over the ice that has nothing to do with going for the puck, so why single out a defender who is shielding an offensive player from the puck?

I don't have a ton of hope for the rest of the series, but my god, the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. What a comeback.

I'm keeping my optimism in check after last year's playoff meltdown, but Jackets are now up, 2-0, after another great game!

I've learned a fair amount about hockey lately, but I still don't know enough to understand really how this is happening. I just know it's pretty weird, especially because the Blue Jackets aren't stealing the series. Outside of the first period of game 1 they've just thumped Tampa the entire way.

Hockey is the sport where playoff seeding matters the least. A hot goaltender can beat anyone, and some teams crumble under the intensity of playoff hockey. Yet Tampa Bay has an experienced and extremely talented team that should have been able to roll. Columbus deserves massive credit for taking it to them like this.
I'm not a system player. I am a system.

Hoping to see the Knights finish the deal this year to end their embarrassing run of almost two full seasons without a championship.

I dunno what happens next (I'm told there's a second round?) but that was awfully fun.
I'm naive enough that I thought the Blue Jackets had a shot, but never would I have imagined they'd look that dominant.
