    Eclipse Day

Here in Ohio (and a swath of the US and Canada) we're getting a total solar eclipse tomorrow. It's certainly a big deal here in Ohio. Schools have pretty much closed and many businesses like mine will not be open tomorrow. I've given my employees a paid holiday.

They're giving us Y2K type warnings such as the ATMs may run out of money. The gas stations may run out of gas. Traffic will be at a standstill. One of the dumber warnings I heard from our state gov't yesterday was "don't try to drive with your eclipse glasses on".

I have my glasses and I'm heading up to my friend's house in Beavercreek outside of Dayton where there will be a total eclipse. Cincinnati will not be in the area of total darkness. Normally it's one hr drive but I'm preparing for it to be a much longer drive tomorrow. The actual total eclipse will be at about 3:10pm but it'll start before 2pm and go 'till well after 4pm. It kind of is a once in a lifetime thing. The last one in Ohio was 1806. The next one will be 2099

Any of you all have plans for this?

    Re: Eclipse Day

I've been looking forward to this for over a year. Maybe longer. I'm in Dayton now, at my mom's place. We're heading to Troy tomorrow where totality will last an extra minute or so.

Forecast for clouds has been bouncing around 35-50% sky cover. It really depends on how quickly the rain moves through this evening. Faster means less clouds tomorrow.

Expecting traffic to be a nightmare, though I've been driving in northern Virginia for years, so I'm used to traffic nightmares.

Lots of videos on YouTube explain all the cool stuff that will be going on.

Being on the westside of Cincinnati, I'm hoping to make it to a somewhat backroad I don't expect to be too crowded and head back before my lunchbreak is over. I can watch the lead up in my office at home.

That’s my hometown. Spoke to mom today, she is excited. I think they’ll draw a big crowd there. Enjoy it, should be fun.

Here in NY we’ll see 90% totality so not quite as exciting but we’re taking the kids out early to see it. Looks like we might have clouds in the way though.

I have a Dr's appoint at 2 pm today. I hope to be out in time to be able to view it. I live in north central Maryland and it won't be a total eclipse but not too far from it. This may be the last one in my lifetime as I read it will be another 20 years before another total eclipse in the United States.

Don't be fooled by those saying 98 or 99% totality is close to as good as totality. It's not! Not even in the same ballpark. YOU MUST GET TO TOTALITY TO VIEW THE CORONA!!! DRIVE THOSE EXTRA MILES!!!

We had 98% in our front yard so I opted for that.

I was pleased, my wife wasn't after she read all the all CAPS comments from friends lamenting our decision.

Mrs. is on a cross-country work flight that should take her through the path of totality right on time. She bought a window seat. Just a question of whether she picked the correct side of the plane.

I’ll check it out from my office. 2017 was spectacular here, so I’ll be more than ok with less than 100% this time around.

Clear skies predicted here in Bloomington, with 4 minutes of totality. I'm busy preparing my crystal necklace, so that the aliens will know how to find me.

Started here in Troy. Looks like ice cream sitting on a wake cone.

It was dark enough to turn on street lights where I live. Basically how I remembered other ones from the past. Things get dim and then lighten up again. Such is life.

We are in the 98% range. Still was a cool thing to see. Our night time motion sensor lights outside actually turned on.
