NBA legend surprises 'young hard-working kid' by paying for his engagement ring at Atlanta jewelry store when he overheard him put it on layaway

According to Shaq, the stranger resisted at first but he told him not to worry, he does it all the time.

'I'm just trying to make people smile, that's all,' he said.

After the purchase, Shaq posed shaking hands with the lucky stranger.

Shaq said he did not expect the moment to go viral.

The basketball star said he loves doing random acts of kindness when he can and talked about recently helping out a mother with an autistic daughter at a furniture store.

My best friend's son made his first varsity start yesterday. He took a no hitter into the 7th and struck out 10.

    Re: Awesomeness Only

My son made it official- he's heading to Europe on June 1st to try to make a living being a musician. Of course, this is the worst possible time because the whole continent is locked down, but I told him that anyone can make it during the best of times, so this will be a challenge and it will be a good chance to create some contacts. It's funny, he was the last kid out of six, and none of the first five showed any musical abilities, but when my wife was pregnant with him, she said every time I took out my guitar, he would start moving around. She said, "He's going to be just like you", and here we are.

Next week (see the other thread), I'm having some musician friends over and they are going to critique his showmanship and music. Some of these guys have have been playing for well over 50 years (blues, jazz, r&b), and they won't hold back. My son plays sax, trumpet, and guitar, and he told me he's worked up a Dixieland rap thing to kick off with. I haven't heard it yet because he wants to surprise me, but my girlfriend's daughters said it's awesome. I'm really glad for him.

This 12-year-old genius has her sights set on becoming a NASA engineer

A gifted 12-year-old is making waves as a soon-to-be college student with plans to work as a NASA engineer.

Alena Wicker, who lives in Texas, will be virtually attending Arizona State University this May after she graduates high school. There, she intends to double major in astronomical and planetary science and chemistry to further her dream of working at NASA as an engineer.

It's a dream she intends to make a reality, and one that she's had ever since she was little, Alena told "Good Morning America."

Originally, she said, she wanted to be an astronomer, but then she decided to switch over to engineering because of her love of building things.

"I would love to build a rover to go to space," Alena said.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

Part-time resident Dan Gilbert, billionaire founder of Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is directing $500 million to rescue dying neighborhoods in Detroit.

The 10-year program has already funded its first project, a $15 million plan to pay overdue property taxes in the city's poorer neighborhoods.

The Detroit Tax Relief Fund will cover about 20,000 homes, Jay Farner, CEO of Quicken Loans/Rocket Mortgage, told theDetroit News, ''by eliminating the burden of property tax debt.”

    Secretlab computer chairs.

I recently bought an Omega (I'm a short dude, 5-8, weighing in at ~140lbs), and this chair has changed my entire life. If your work requires you to sit all day it's worth it. I had lower back pain every day cuz I sat at my comp all day, but this chair fixed it.

This is the one I bought. I got it in Stealth design cuz I didn't want any of the gamer looking designs.. A few addition details... They're on the firm side, but you don't feel the frame. There's tons of support, and it comes with lumbar and neck pillows that you can adjust if needed. Those who like firm beds will like. It's also built like a freaking tank. About as heavy as a chair this size can be. Top notch build quality.

    Re: Awesomeness Only

My 8 y.o. son has been playing baseball for a couple years now-4 seasons across spring and fall ball. He has not been very good or all that into it other than being outside and playing with other kids, but never really into the game itself-His stats back that up lol-and I have tried not to put any pressure on him as long as he was going out there. Something has clicked this year, he cares and has been trying, and making great strides, but hitting still wasn't there as he struck out his 1st six at bats this season and the last kid on the team that doesn't have a hit-although he hit the ball both at bats earlier this week but grounded out both times That changed last night, went 3-3, 2 rbis and a run scored. Its only little league and doesn't mean much, but seeing him smiling and loving playing and the game itself so much now is the most awesome thing to me!

Got my second nine days ago. Moderna, and I got sick a few days later, like many do, but that just let me know my immune system works. Ready for the world again.

A 7 year old black Staffordshire terrier named Jessie saved her 13 year old doggy friend, a Pomeranian named Chucky, from drowning in a backyard swimming pool in South Africa.

CCTV footage shows the black pooch running to rescue the smaller toy Pomeranian who fell into the water after slipping on the pool's edge in Boksburg City on April 8, the Pomeranian battled to stay afloat for 34 minutes prior to being rescued.
