Kindhearted Boy Used His Birthday Money to Start a Food Bank in His Garden Shed

“We’d always donated to food banks, and during the pandemic he would take food parcels into school which would be given to people in need,” said his very proud mom Claire, who added that recently Isaac had moved to a specialist school which didn’t have a similar program, leaving him depressed that he couldn’t continue to help people.

“Being the resilient little lad he is, he said ‘it’s alright, we’ll give them food at my house,’” said Claire. “I was laughing, but he had just broken his arm so I let him do it to cheer him up. I doubled what money we gave them normally for food parcels and he went off to Aldi.”

I’m on the verge of a milestone birthday. Mrs fan recently surprised me with my first ever trip to Cooperstown. Coincided with daughter’s fall break from college. Joining the surprise were my sister and niece from NYC, as well as sister, brother-in-law and 2 nephews from Indianapolis.

After we all spent the afternoon at the HoF, we retreated to a rented house on a farm. With the leaves in full bloom and a the beginnings of a campfire, I got to play catch with my nephews and once again use my dad’s Yogi Berra model catchers mitt that my sister salvaged when we cleaned out our parents’ house a few years ago.

It wasn’t Ray Liotta and Kevin Costner in a corn field, but it was darn close.

That sounds absolutely wonderful. If my wife surprised me with that I would fall over dead from shock.

    Re: Awesomeness Only

So this one doesn't matter much in the world-no story of saving a life or contributing to society, but it was awesome to me. My son has been playing little league since kindergarten- now a 5th grader-spring and fall seasons. He wasn't into it the first couple years, then covid really impacted development by cancelling a year. He is not a great athlete naturally but has really loved playing the last couple years. This past spring, he started to develop more-his arm has come around and is pretty strong for his age (10 y.o), and he is running a little faster but his hitting was really bad-he didn't get a hit all spring season. He has been working hard though and slowly improving, we rebuilt his swing with the help of a hitting instructor in our area and he and I go to the field or in the backyard on a tee/net and gets a lot of swings in on our own. His swing looks really good overall, but he just hasn't been able to carry it over into games. He moved up to the 12u league this fall and got drilled his first 3 games, including one by a much bigger/older kid right in his shoulder that ricocheted into his face. He was obviously scared after this and has been stepping out all season since then and not making contact. Something clicked 3 weeks ago, and he is now on a 3-game hitting streak. Last night he played the best game of his life-he hit a liner right up the middle collecting 2 rbi's that ended up being the winning runs; he also pitched 2 innings, struck out 3 and made 2 plays on balls hit back to him including a game saving play (hard hit ball by the bigger kid who hit him earlier in the season) with runners on 2nd and 3rd and us up 2 to get his first ever win as a pitcher. I am always proud of him as he is a great kid, but last night was special to watch hi have success and the greatest smile I can imagine-made me think how my dad felt watching me play as a kid. Sorry for long story but I'm a proud dad right now which feels pretty awesome.

Are you looking for a new charity to donate this holiday season, I want to suggest Modest Needs. I've been donating to them the past few years, and they help people who are missing bills or need groceries, "modest" things like that.

'Corn Kid' helps donate 90,000 cans of vegetables to NYC food rescue for Thanksgiving

SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Tariq "The Corn Kid" visited City Harvest to help donate his favorite vegetable to those in need ahead of Thanksgiving and we can't think of a more beautiful thing.

The 7-year-old Brooklyn native was joined by the Green Giant mascot to help unload a truck full of canned corn-- and other vegetables-- at City Harvest's brand-new Cohen Community Food Rescue Center in Sunset Park.

About 50,000 cans of corn was packed up along with a variety of dried goods and 13,000 turkeys in this year's holiday meal boxes.

When Tariq was asked why he likes corn so much, he simply said, "because it's healthy."

My high school sports experience can be summed up as follows: liked tennis my freshman year and took lessons. Tried out for the team, didn't make it. I also didnt like the other kids and the coach. It was that bad an experience for me I pretty much said f it to playing sports in high school.

So for the first time in over 20 years I picked ups tennis racket and got an eval at a local tennis center. I surprised myself in that I still had a little game. Enough so I could have chosen to skip beginner lessons. But I'm gonna start at beginner for now and work my way up.

Employer Gifts A Month's Worth Of Groceries To All 100 Employees, With No Limit

More than one hundred Yonego employees all received a folder, a shopping bag and a gold envelope. Yonego's owner, Joris Toonders, then told them to put all of their receipts from the supermarket in the envelope throughout the month of December.

"No one knew and it took a while before the penny dropped. There was dead silence for a few seconds. Then people started clapping. I think I've said thank you a thousand times," an employee told Omroep Brabant, a Netherlands news station.

"I have never seen a hundred colleagues so quiet together," Toonders said.

Toonders did not put any limitations on the groceries. He told the news station that he trusts his employees to not take advantage of this gift.

"I don't know what people normally do for groceries and whether they're going to buy something extra, but I trust my colleagues," Toonders said.

"You have to trust your colleagues and they have to feel that way too."

Kids surprise deaf cafeteria worker by learning sign language to communicate with her
Their teacher helped them learn new words every week

Leisa Duckwall is deaf and had been working at the school for four years serving the students and staff. Because Duckwall cannot hear, she and the students did the best they could to make it work, until a teacher had an idea. Kari Maskelony, who teaches fourth grade, spoke with Duckwall using American Sign Language (ASL) and noticed the cafeteria went silent.

Students watched in awe as the two women used their hands to communicate. Maskelony grew up in a family that was hard of hearing, so sign language was part of her life, according to My Modern Met. After seeing the reaction of students, Maskelony asked the kids if they would like to learn the language.

In January of 2020 my cat Girly wasn't eating and very sick. Took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with cancer. They gave her days to live, and suggested we take her home to say our goodbyes and come back a few days later to put her down. She passed away today, nearly 3 years later. Turns out switching her to pate gave her a second chance on life, as her dry food was too much for her condition, and she lived well till these last couple days. Sad story I know, but it's totally awesome to beat a few days by several years.

I was a librarian for 21 years, working in jobs that were not very challenging or rewarding. So, I decided to reinvent myself by learning how to do software implementation, which I did for five years, with a vague notion of returning to libraries to work as a consultant. As it were, I landed a job as an implementation consultant, working with academic libraries, migrating to a new open source management system. That's pretty awesome, but even more awesome, I was named the lead implementation consultant for the Library of Congress, which means I'll be helping them develop routines and workflows that will take research libraries into a new era of information management.

Your first sentence deserved the “awesomeness” title, much respect to all librarians. But wow, lead consultant for the Library of Congress!! That is some super awesomeness. Congratulations!
