Mom whose overdose photo went viral celebrates 3 years of sobriety

Erika Hurt describes reaching rock bottom in 2016 when a photo released by police went viral showing her overdosed on heroin in the driver's seat of a car with her 10-month-old son in the backseat.

Hurt had to be revived using two doses of Narcan -- a nasal spray that can help reverse an opioid overdose -- when first responders in Hope, Indiana, found her. She was on probation when the overdose happened and was sentenced to six months in a locked-down rehabilitation program.
Now, three years later, new photos of Hurt and her son Parker are going viral -- pics that show them together and happy and marking three years of sobriety for Hurt.

"I hope people see how low my bottom was and that they know if their bottom is not that far from mine, that they can come back too," Hurt, 28, told "Good Morning America." "I just think it's really cool because I feel even more planted and stable in my recovery [today]."

Alabama deputies aid veteran who attempted 100-mile walk to VA
By Amy Henderson CNHI News Service Nov 11, 2019

"A Jasper, Alabama, military veteran, attempting to walk nearly 100 miles from Jasper to Huntsville to keep an appointment with the Veterans Administration hospital on Wednesday caught a break – and a ride – when a Walker County deputy spotted him.

What ensued next was coordination across four sheriff’s offices to get the veteran to his appointment on Wednesday and back home Thursday. In addition, a Facebook post by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has triggered an outpouring of support."...

Video shows a man rescuing neighbor's dog after its leash got stuck in elevator doors

A man saved his neighbor's dog after its leash got caught in an elevator door on Monday and their apartment security cameras captured the rescue.

Johnny Mathis, 27, was coming home from work in Houston, Texas and had just parked his car in his apartment complex's underground garage. Mathis lives on the ground floor of his community so he took the elevator up to his floor. As soon as he got off, a woman and her dog were trying to get on.

    Re: Awesomeness Only

I weighed 245 lb in August.

My goal was to weigh under 200 by Christmas. I’m proud to say I weighed in at 199 this morning. I’ve been lifting while losing weight and am 6’2” so I’m becoming a bit of a lean mean fighting machine right now and am quite excited about it.
What would you say.....ya do here?

Congrats. I was at 226 in August and aimed for 199 on New Years and was on pace for the first month but I pulled my calf working out at the end of September and was hobbling around for 6 weeks and I've been treading water at 218. Going to go for a slower pace for the first quarter of 2020 and keep it easy on the leg.

    Great job

I wish you luck in keeping it off, from personal experience that's the hardest part.

Yep, same. I feel like this time is different because of how I’m approaching my diet (no fad diets! Just eating right and consistently) and two little kids I want to see grow up alongside my wife has been quite the inspiration so far.

That's the way to do it. At one time I weighed 255 and got down to 210. I can't keep it consistently below that though. Another RZ member, Redsmetz, lost a lot of weigh to a few years back. He had before and after pictures and it was amazing the difference. Just eat in moderation and you should be able to keep it off.

I really like reading these narratives from our friends here who are making life changes, losing weight and meeting their personal goals. I'm sure it's difficult and I wish you all well!

Down to 188.4 lbs today. Getting stronger too. I can legitimately say I’m in the best shape of my life.
