For the first time in the 20+ years I've reffed soccer it finally happened. I tore my ACL and am having surgery in a couple weeks. I already have the PT stretches and have been doing them at least once a day for 2 weeks. Any tips on what to expect after the fact? Its not a complete tear.

I got the cadaver part replacement. Works like a dream. They made me stay off it and wear an immobilizer for six weeks. Hopping in the shower is a pain. Also had the continuous motion contraption at night. Slept fine, though some might not.
Had no pain. Played soccer on it, ski on it. Supposedly it's stronger than the original part. Main suggestion is do the rehab exactly like they tell you.

I wish I had gotten that procedure. I had mine done 20+ years ago and they took a chunk of my patellar tendon and used that. It still feels weird when I kneel. I also had to do physical therapy at a campus health center in a room with devices that looked very much like something out of the Spanish Inquisition. A far cry from the facilities on university campuses today.
However, it still seems to hold up just fine, even playing Over 40 Soccer. Ironically, I had to take time off because now my "good" knee has been bothering me.
Wear gaudy colors, or avoid display. Lay a million eggs or give birth to one. The fittest shall survive, yet the unfit may live. Be like your ancestors or be different. We must repeat!

It was S.O.P. for my doc (he was Nancy Kerrigan's knee guy). He was adamant about no weight bearing for six weeks.

Okay had the surgery today. Leg feels like a 50 lb weight is attached with this brace. I was told to take it off tomorrow (Thursday) and take the ace bandage off. My question is can I go ahead and take it off to sleep? I cannot get comfortable in anyway to even try and sleep.

Scope. Can't even tell I had knee surgery.
Are they giving you the automatic knee bender? My main advice is follow the recovery instructions to the letter.

As far as I know they used part of the hamstring and rebuilt mine. I haven’t taken it off yet to look at it.

IIRC, the hammy replacement is more invasive, so you've probably got more of a recovery path. Hopefully you'll be getting a CPM (continuous passive motion) machine to keep the blood flowing.

Last couple days my knee has been absolutely stiff and swollen. I went to a birthday party and sat on a metal chair. I wanted to see if that’s normal 5 days post surgery. I go back for a follow up tomorrow.

So what did the doctor say? I'm guessing he said this is within normal limits
Looks great, just part of the normal healing process. He "unlocked" my brace for upto 90 degrees and sent me to start physical therapy. Still working on getting comfortable "walking" with the crutches now.

My wife had her ACL repaired in September after tearing it playing soccer. This machine has helped a lot with swelling.
