Hard to blame him. OSU is in a tough spot if Fields doesn’t get that waiver.

I frankly think Martell was going to finish third in the QB competition behind Baldwin.

Martell is not Day’s type, he is Urban’s. Baldwin was hand picked by Day.
What would you say.....ya do here?

    Is Baldwin recovered from injury?

He is, but still hasn't played a snap in an actual game or even practiced with the 1s yet.

It depends. If Fields doesn't get his waiver and has to sit out, its massive. If Fields gets his waiver approved, it hurts because you have basically 2 QB's, but from all reports, Fields is substantially better than Martel.

I think Martel's impact will be felt in his class, when he committed he was one of OSU's best recruiters. I think that impact is far greater than he ever could have done on the field.

So what? That’s the story for most college players. We are a long way from next season.

If Martell transfers, is Keanu Reeves back starting at QB?

I hope Baldwin is awesome and I know that the media has really been trying to get over the whole “he’s Days guy” thing, but if he’s QB1 next year the expectations of the season are lower.

Agreed, but I think he’s going to surprise folks.

    Johnny Utah or Shane Falco?

I had completely forgotten about Point Break. And in both cases he was an ex-Ohio State quarterback. Let's go with Falco.

They tried to make the dream happen. They tried to bring Marcus Freeman back, but apparently he preferred to stay at UC and retain playcalling duties.

It also sounds like OSU's first choice for a DB coaching position was LSU's Corey Raymond. The guy they ended up hiring, Matt Barnes, hardly seems like top of the list material.

That said, I like the look of the reshuffling of the defensive staff. A lot of it obviously rides on Jeff Hafley, but Mattison and Washington seem like solid hires. I think Washington is going to a big plus in recruiting (as I think Hartline is on the offensive side of the ball). The Yurcich hire seems like a strong one as well. Definitely a lot of uncertainty going forward, but on first blush I like the makeup of Day's first staff. I do hope he's able to jettison Martell rather quickly and not let the situation become daily gossip fodder. That little guy is a diva.
