To be fair, Ervin had a really slow start in AAA this year and Schebler was among the best hitters in ST.

Yeah, god forbid they give a guy who had been an above average offensive player for each of the last 3+ seasons over 1000+ PAs a month and a half to attempt to straighten things out at the plate.

Just curious where you calling for Ervin to be the Reds opening day CF before the season started?

No I where not, I would not have wasted so much time though with a guy batting .105 when the offense was struggling

Well, Ervin hit .220 in AAA in the month of April, and is a butcher in CF. Many people were calling for the Reds to get a real backup CF for the bench before the year started, but they never made that move.

Re: glad schebler had a month and a half

Keeping Ervin so long at AAA this year was a terrible decision. I said so at the time. Nothing to do with Schebler who is a subject of this thread.

Ervin was successful last season at AAA and MLB. He’s a former first round pick reaching 27 years old this year. He was ready.

The whole point of developing prospects is to use them or trade them by the time they are ready or before they lose prospect status. Not to let them languish in the minors. That Ervin had a slow start is irrelevant, so did many Reds on the offensive side of the ball.

Kemp was the guy Ervin should've been playing over. He's not a CF option IMO.

You’re right, of course. It didn’t work out. That doesn’t mean that it was a bad decision at the time.
