Here's an early obituary/news of his death.

I changed the title of the thread to correspond with the current circumstances.

Sad news. Condolences to his family.

Re: Frank Robinson Has Passed Away

I didn't see Robinson play when he was at his peak. I only remember him in his last year in Baltimore, then with the Dodgers,Angels and then player-manager with the Indians. IIRC, he hit a HR in his first game as player-manager of the Indians. Of course he is well known for being the first black manager in MLB. He was a good manager for quite few years with the Giants, Expos and then the Nationals. He did a good job with the Nationals keeping that franchise somewhat stable when the MLB took it over and then transitioned to new owner ship. His first year in DC they played .500 ball which, in itself, was a minor miracle.

The stats he put up in his career are staggering. Very, very few have put up better. But yet he has always been somewhat underrated. Rarely mentioned with the all time greats like Ruth,Williams,Musial,Aaron,Mays etc.... But he should be included in that group. He was that good. I think he is still the only player to win MVP in both leagues. His trade from the Reds is still legendary in that it may have been the most lopsided trade of all time. I have a good idea of why the Reds traded him but I won't go down that road in this thread. Baseball lost one of its truly great players today and will be a little less with out him. RIP to one of the greatest if not the greatest Red of all time.

I hope the Reds honor him by wearing a patch this year.
