    Re: MLB TV

I've been reading over this thread - and thanks for everyone's input - while mulling over my current situation. I have an antenna and I stream. I pay for Netflix and have a Firestick. That's it! And I knew this day was coming (i.e. baseball season), and I had to find a "source" to watch the Reds (LOL). I've experimented with some of the streaming services like SlingTV, DirectvNow, HuluLive, etc., and my wife and I honestly don't watch the channels enough to justify the cost in order for me to get FSO. FS1, STO.

It looks to me like the best and least inexpensive way is MLBTV. Since it's advent years ago I have little to no experience with it. All I ever heard from friends was complaints about the quality, the lapses, etc (LOL). Bu they had you over a barrel because that was the only avenue (legally) to watch games. Take it or leave it.

So I'm assuming a lot of those issues have long been resolved, and it's well worth the investment? I'm recently retired so I'm trying to get all my ducks in order here (LOL). I just ordered me a new TaylorMade driver, getting the clubs ready .... now I gotta get the baseball end taken care of. $112 for a season of baseball watching seems fair to me. I know the concessions are a lot cheaper!

If you are in Bellefontaine still you are in the Reds blackout area. Are you sure that will work for you?

Can you watch Reds games through the FoxSports Ohio app?

i think you have to be a subscriber to a service that offers it to log i, like cable or satellite for that app to work
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

Went on MLB's site and did the blackout check. Yep. I'm subject to the blackout restrictions for the Reds. Bummer.

I don't have subscriptions to any cable or satellite providers.

It looks like I'm going to have to go back to SlingTV. Before I had the Orange+Blue plan (Approx $45/month). I just need the Blue Plan ($25/month) which carries the regional Fox channels.

The redemption page for the MLBPAA discount has not yet been activated. It will be available closer to the start of the regular season. Please continue to check the page for updates. The link to the page is provided below.
Going back to this and anyone who is getting the MLBPAA discount; I received an e-mail from MLBPAA with a link for the discount. You just clicked on that link and it took you to the payment page of MLBTV with the discounted amount filled in. You just had to provide your own payment information and it was done. So if you have signed up for MLPBPAA just look for the e-mail with the discount link in it and you should be set.

Hey GAC, if you are just wanting to watch Reds games then this wouldn't be for you since you are in their back out area. If you are interested in all the other games then it is very much worth it. I think how it works all depends on your ISP provider. I have Verizon Fios, which is excellent in my area. I have very little problems with watching on any device I have. So depending on the reliability of your provider I would take that into high consideration if you decide to purchase MLBTV.

Are you sure about this? I subscribed to this for the trial one time and discovered that I could only see the tape delayed 2-hour condensed versions of the games that were posted at midnight. The hoops you have to jump through for sports is only getting more ridiculous and expensive.

    Re: MLB TV

MLB.tv has dropped a lot of devices that'll run on. In fact they dropped my Sony device so I'm out of luck. I wasn't pleased with the streaming quality of it last year anyway but I would think their sub rate would be much lower this year. Shouldn't the idea be to increase the number of devices rather than cut 'em?

    Re: MLB TV

Perhaps the reason your Sony looked like crap last year, and the reason it was dropped this year are related. You can pick up 4K Roku sticks for $49 or less all the time. It seems like I see them on sale for $39 about once a month.

I don't think Roku will work for my projection tv. I need sound to go to my surround sound

I've got a DLP tv that I bought about 2002 that is on its last legs. I might very well replace it with a smart tv that has Roku or something that's compatible with mlb.tv

We've had some talks about this in other threads. I think most people like the Roku or some other device attached better than the smart Tv. TCL's are fantastic and they are on sale right now. Let me know if you have questions.
