    Reds Sign Derek Dietrich

    @Ken_Rosenthal

#Reds in agreement with free-agent infielder Derek Dietrich on a minor-league contract, pending a physical. Deal includes invitation to major-league spring training and will be worth $2M+ on the major-league side.

Yet another move I really agree with. Guy can play all over the diamond and gets on base at a very reasonable clip. Has some pop too. Plus he hits from the left side. A perfect player to round out the bench.

There's your backup infielder. If he plays well, there's also room to trade Scooter at the deadline to fill a need (assuming Senzel is sticking in center).

I like this, much better than the Cliff Pennington deals of the past.
The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).

Solid utility player/bench player. Went to St Iggy in Cleveland. Not that I care about local players, just an observation.

I like it, Dietrich is pretty much the definition of a solid utility player. Always collapse potential with those guys but not much of an investment here so you can cut bait easily if it isn’t working.

And Tanner Roark has hit him 7 times.

Unironically a great move. Perfect bench bat.

I am very surprised he signed a MiLB deal.

Another good move. Wonder if this is in advance of another trade.

So, was he the guy that teams plunked after Urena threw at their guy?

Free agency has completely collapsed. Dietrich is a good hitter, plays multiple positions and under 30. There isn’t a guaranteed roster spot for this guy anywhere in the league?

Split squad games could get interesting.

Hmm. I wonder who this could preclude a trade of? Scooter?

Edit- Didn't know he played OF as well. That opens things up....

Just looked it up and he’s never played a single inning at SS. But I guess it doesnt mean Dick and Bell aren’t going to try it.

Seriously, this guy has an .816 OPS away from Marlins Park. Gotta wonder if an OF is on his way out via trade.
