Re: Best Country Song of All Time

    I'll add in a few:

    Amarillo by Morning
    I walk the Line
    Mama Tried
    Forever and Ever Amen
    Gentle On My Mind
    Your Cheatin' Heart

Some that probably aren't greatest, but they are fun
You Never Even Called Me By My Name
    Don't Rock The Juke Box
Don't Come Home A Drinkin' with Lovin' on Your Mind
    Boot Scootin Boogie
    Lovesick Blues
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

It's kind of a hard list, because the lines between Country and other music is kind of blurry. Older stuff is kind of a fuzzy line between Rockabilly stuff like Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers and even Elvis sounds very country. As time goes on, Southern Rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd (SP?), .38 Special, ZZ top, early Doobie Brothers, early Eagles and The Allman Brothers sound country.

If these are considered country, songs like Take It Easy, Black Water, Ramblin' Man, Free Bird, La Grange, Blue Suede Shoes, Great Balls of Fire, Jail House Rock and Wake Up Little Susie might go to the top of the list for me.

Garth got me into country. His live album back in the 90's was pretty fantastic as well as his Hits album. I went from Garth-Tim McGraw-Kenny Chesney-ZBB-Eric Church. I listen to some new "pop country" mainly because its easy listening and its safe to play around my kids.

I am not a huge fan of the twangy country, Garth is about as twangy as I get.

Smokey Mountain Rain was always a favorite.

Here You Come Again, Dolly. Actually any Dolly is fine.

Gotta be some Kenny Rogers we could add here.

I was going to suggest a separate thread for the best country music song titles, but then I realized nothing could ever beat Billy Joe Shaver’s “The Devil Made Me Do It The First Time (The Second Time I Done It On My Own)”.

Country is an odd bird, you have the stripped down traditional stuff that predates the Billy Sherill era of the 60's then you have the gloss or outlaw stuff of the 70's and then the commercial growth seen in the 80's followed now by a country sound that has gotten more poppy and rock n roll.

For pure stripped down country I like Merle and the Strangers in the 60's and Willies Red Headed Stranger and Phases and Changes which IMO are the best Willie out there

I try to embrace it all. Listened to Everly Brothers then Alice in Chains today.

But this country talk has me kinda wanting to put some old stuff on.

That’s pretty much where I’m at as well. Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Conway Twitty, and Marty Robbins.

But don’t forget Dottie, Tammy, Loretta, and Dolly.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and a show at the Ryman is a must if you’re ever in Nashville. Just great.

My wife is a late arrival for country but loves it. For our anniversary this year, I bought 2 Country Megatickets at Riverbend. 7 shows, Dierks Bentley, Rascal Flatts, Luke Bryan (her favorite), Brad Paisley, FGL, Thomas Rhett, and Jason Andean. I guess I need to buy a cowboy hat.
She used to wake me up with coffee ever morning

I'm out of my league in this conversation.
