Certainly not a UC fan by any stretch, but I'm happy for Coach Googins that he was able to get them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in my lifetime.

Oregon State limped into the Regionals this season. Not a good sign with a new Coach. Michigan, Creighton and Cincinnati have a good chance here.

Toughest bracket looks like Atlanta with Georgia Tech, Auburn, Coastal Carolina and Florida A&M.

Team most likely to dominate their bracket: Easy call. UCLA, who will have their Starters rested awaiting the winner of the Corvallis bracket. Going to be extremely difficult for the Beavers to get to the World Series this season.

My Tenn Vols are back in the tournament. First time since 2005. Long drought. They open against Liberty who they beat 7-1 in Feb but that was a long time ago.

The Fighting Jerry Falwells are a good team. They won the A-Sun, but they were probably an at-large team even if they had lost in the A-Sun championship.

Biggest surprise was Cal getting a 2-seed, but they had some quality wins.

The teams we spoke a lot about here,TEN, IND and DB (that's Dallas-Baptist for those still learning the names of Universities that have a good history in Sports in this country) all got favorable seedings.

You start by winning a Conference. Then you learn how to win a Regional, whether you are a Top-seed or a Visitor in hostile territory. Then you have to learn to win Super, in hostile territory or in the comforts of home. Then you learn the importance of staying in the Winner's Bracket in the World Series. Then you learn to win the World Series from the Winner's Bracket. Then you learn to win the World Series from the Loser's Bracket, the most difficult task in NCAA Sports. This is why the loss of Pat Casey will hurt. He's learned all these things. He'll be with them along the way as a consultant, and being the defending Champs with back-to-back Championship Game appearances, could be the difference this year for Oregon State to get past UCLA, the #1 overall seed, and get back to Omaha again. Hosting the Regional will be the difference for them to get to a Super against UCLA.

No regional for me, but we did get exciting news out here: former Wichita State All-American and Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge took over as Shockers head coach today. Big time hire for the Shockers after the disastrous Todd Butler era (following the legendary Gene Stephenson).

We got some interesting news, too. First I have to mention how out of the loop I am regarding OSU baseball even though our household has multiple alumni, as I found out that Pat Casey only took a "leave of absence" as Coach of the Beavers and that the current Coach is on an interim basis, where Casey has the option to return next season. The current Coach won a National Title at a lower level before becoming an Assistant to Pat Casey. He's done a remarkable job this season as OSU lost five position Starters to the Draft, lost their Closer the entire year, their best Starter for most of the year and two other Starters for big chunks of the year. Adley Rutschman was named Pac-12 POY today.

Oregon agreed to part ways with their Coach today and they are targeting OSU's staff, their interim Coach and their Pitching Coach, who was the NCAA Pitching Coach of the Year in 2015 when they were the #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament (one of three of 20 #1 seeds to lose their Regional after the tournament went to a 64-team field...UCLA is one of the other two, but that's not likely to repeat itself).

George Horton, who won the NCAA Title with Cal State Fullerton in 2014, just couldn't get the program going well enough to satisfy the jealousy of the Ducks about the Beavers successful program. Horton turns 67 October 5th, so he'll certainly get offers, but he's creeping up there in age regarding "too old" to hire.
