Taylor wasn’t going to be a regular anyway, so I doubt they have much interest in taking on a huge salary commitment.

And unless they take on some real salary commitment, there is zero reason for the Reds to move him.

The Nats are also up against the salary cap and they want to extend Rendon- if they had room they'd sign Kimbrel for this year, so I would highly doubt they can afford Kemp.

As others have mentioned, Taylor's a bench OF for them. Their starting OF is Soto-Robles-Eaton.

Well, someone(s) has to go. It's very likely they will only keep 4 OF. Winker, Puig, Shebler, Kemp and Senzel are all candidates to stay. Ervin deserves a spot but probably won't.

As President of the Jesse Winker Fan Club I don't know that I would object to Kemp often giving Winker a rest vs LHP. I want Jesse to get some experience vs LHP but let's be honest...it could help the team quite a bit if Kemp feasts vs LHP and Winker plays vs RHP. Now, there are ways to spread Kemp/Winker around so that Kemp isn't always shoving Winker to the bench vs LHP.

I see the arguments to keep Kemp. But the arguments against are far more substantial than a threat to Jesse Winker.

Kemp’s expensive; plays a crowded position; likely has no future with the club after 2019; and lacks defensive versatility.

Further, with Kemp Reds have two dedicated outfielders on a four man bench. This four-man bench situation is different from 1999 when it was common to have five outfielders.

Ultimately it’s a matter of getting sufficient value for Kemp. If not, then keep him. But the reasons to seek a trade are rather substantial.

Well if Winker is as good as many think he is, it will work itself out, like you said.

Besides, now is not the time to trade Kemp. The time to trade him is in July, when a team is more desperate for a needed piece for a playoff push and his contract is far less of a roadblock. You’ll get more for him then than you would now. And if the Reds are contending come July, I don’t want them to trade Kemp at all. Ride it out and see where it goes.

Speaking for myself you can see that I put forth my rebuttal right after you said that.

If there is a logjam and a trade can be made to improve the club (and yes it would include dollars going the other way) Kemp would be the first guy to go for me. Schebler would be ok to be traded as well. I want to hold onto Winker and Senzel...and Puig is the best of all the OF...that’s why I would have my eye on trading Schebler/Kemp.

Not because I want Winker to get more AB. (This year)
