Games of Tuesday, July 16
Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 3-3, 2 HRs, 2 walks, 2 RBI. It's not easy to win PotD as an AZL Red, but with the right kind of performance on the right kind of day, anything is possible (well, besides trying to overthrow the Cuban government with a CIA fail squad, maybe). Castro gets attention for his name but he's letting his bat do the talking, the 20-year-old Dominican outfielder is slashing .323/.377/.613 out in Arizona.
Honorable mention: Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-3, HR, BB, RBI. That's 22 HRs now for the resurgent Aquino. July has been his worst month so far, 'only' putting up a .842 OPS so far.
In other action, with only the AZL and DSL teams picking up W's:
Keury Mella, Louisville: 6 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs. Mella, forever a tease who puts together good stretches and then brutal ones, is currently doing the former with a pair of solid outings his last two times out now.
Joel Kuhnel, Louisville: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts. Kuhnel has 10 strikeouts and a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings with Louisville so far.
Gavin LaValley, Chattanooga: 1-3, HR, RBI. In a double header the Lookouts managed just 5 total hits and one run, this was that run.
Yonathan Mendoza, Daytona: 2-4, BB, RBI
Hendrik Clementina, Daytona: 2-4
Bruce Yari, Daytona: 2-5
Connor Curlis, Daytona: 4 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts, 1 run.
John Ghyzel, Daytona: 2 innings, 0 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs
Cameron Warren, Greeneville: 1-4, RBI
Garrett Wolforth, Greeneville: 2-4, 2B
Luke Berryhill, Greeneville: 1-2, 2 walks. Org debut for the singing South Carolina catcher.
Raul Juarez, Greeneville: 1-4, 2B
Patrick Raby, Greeneville: 1.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, or runs, 1 strikeout
Eric Yang, Billings: 1-2, 2 walks, RBI. #YangGang
Cash Case, Billings: 1-4, HR, 4 RBI
Nate Scantlin, Billings: 2-4, 3B. 20-year-old outfielder from Rose Hill, KS, is hitting a solid .292/.370/.500 since joining the Mustangs last month. He does have a failed drug test to his name, for those concerned with such things.
Ryan Dunne, Billings: 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 earned runs
Jose Tello, AZL Reds: 2-5
Caleb Van Blake, AZL Reds: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI
Debby Santana, AZL Reds: 3-4, 2 RBI. Debby is having a solid season so far, but his thunder has been usurped by Comrade Fidel.
Jacques Pucheu, AZL Reds: 3 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 0 runs
Maiker Manuel, AZL Reds: 5 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts, 2 runs
Thomas Lora, DSL Reds: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, stolen base
Ilvin Fernandez, DSL Reds: 1-3, RBI
Jose Acosta, DSL Reds: 1-3, 2B, BB, RBI
Darlin Guzman, DSL Reds: 1-4, 2B, RBI
Jesus Rojas, DSL Reds: 4 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs
