Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Wednesday, July 3

MiLPoD: Aristides Aquino, Louisville . . . 1-2, HR (19), 2 walks, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 2 SB (5). Never really thought of the tall OF (1.005 OPS) as a box-score stuffer. Or a bona fide option for the big club. Maturing at 25?

    Honorable Mention: Ricky Salinas, Dayton . . . 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 4 K, W. Rice product has been an ace over his last 4 starts, permitting only 2 runs in 21.1 innings.

Also notable on a night when the farms went 6-2, won a few close ones, and got good pitching from guys we know precious little about . . .

    Louisville

    Juan Graterol: 3-4, RBI.

Keury Mella: Cleared the bases with a double. Gave up 4 runs in 5.2 IP, no walks.

Nick Longhi: 1-2, double, 2 walks.

    Dayton

Mike Siani: 2-3, walk, SB (23). Don’t know if he made another great play in center, but odds are.

Juan Martinez: 2-4, double, 2 RBI.

Matt Pidich: Fanned 2 in a perfect 8th.

Connor Bennett: Scoreless 9th for his 11th save.

    Daytona

Andy Sugilio: 3-5, 2 runs. Speedy outfielder is 8-14 over last 3 games, up to .305.

    Alejo Lopez: 2-4, walk, RBI.

    Jonathan India: double, walk, RBI.

Stuart Fairchild: 2 sac flies. Second one was a walkoff in the 10th.

    Wendolyn Bautista: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 9 K.

Diomar Lopez: 5 strikeouts in 2 sharp innings.

Andy Cox: Finished game with 2 scoreless innings and a W, lowering ERA to 0.47 since joining the Tortugas in mid-May.

    Greeneville

Cristian Olivo: 3-4, double, 2 RBI. Touted outfielder, 20, has a good start on his first strong season out of four. Batting cleanup.

    Robert Boselli: 2-4, HR (2), 2 RBI.

    Peterson Plaz: 2-4, game-winning RBI.

    Andy Fisher: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K. Undrafted lefty sporting a 0.77 ERA with a K/BB of 17/1.

    Billings

Quin Cotton: 4-5, SB (2). Outfielder from Grand Canyon has had a postcard start, batting .358.

Jonathan Willems: 3-4, double, 2 runs.

    Reniel Ozuna: 2-5, RBI.

Eric Yang: 2-5, RBI. Premature OPS of .900 for the 7th-round catcher from Santa Barbara.

    Nate Scantlin: 2-5, triple, RBI.

Quincy McAfee: 1-3, sac fly, 3 RBI.

    Ricky Karcher: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

Frainger Aranguren: 2.2 spotless frames, 1 K. Mustangs pitchers walked nobody.

Alberto Gonzalez: 2 scoreless innings. Righty’s from Laredo. Does he throw from down there?

    DSL

Gabriel Aguilera: 5 perfect innings out of the bullpen, with 4 K. Venezuelan, 18, is in his maiden season.

Jose Acosto: HR (1), walk, 2 RBI. Homer matched his rookie total from last year.

    Chattanooga

    Taylor Trammell: 2-4, walk.

    Gavin LaValley: 2-4, RBI.

    AZL

    Fidel Castro: 2-4, double.

Luis Mey: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. The Reds must think the Dominican righthander is cut from a different cloth, starting him on the mainland at barely 18.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Games of Thursday, July 4 (Independence Day)

MiPOD Lucas Sims threw 7 shutout innings with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts. He looked great for the first six innings in Cincinnati, but he has been all over the place since returning to Louisville. Hopefully he can build on this start and string a few together and get people wondering whether a Sims/DeSclafani tandem makes sense again.

Honorable Mention Alfredo Rodriguez went 2-4 with a solo home run (1) and a steal (12). As the president of the AlfRod fan club, I have to give him a shutout for his first bomb of the year. His ISO is still only .061, but his K rate is also just 13.2% and his IFFB% is still 5% lower than any other year. He likely won't hit .299 his entire career (like he is this season) but if his defense really is Gold Glove caliber, he is showing enough signs with the bat this year to make an impact in the bigs.

Honorable Mention Scott Moss allowed a run in 6 innings with a walk and 7 strikeouts. Moss took such a step back in the K department last year that his prospect status lost a lot of luster for me. However, the Ks are back and better than ever this year (although he is also walking more batters). More starts like this one may vault him to the top of the Reds pitching prospect lists.

    The Louisville Bats won 7-0.

Narciso Crook went 3-5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Christian Colon went 3-5 with a double, home run (6), 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI.
Brian O’Grady went 1-5 with a solo home run (21).
Nick Longhi went 1-3 with a double, RBI, and he walked twice.
Eric Stout threw 2 shutout innings with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

    The Chattanooga Lookouts won 5-2.

Taylor Trammell went 1-4 with a steal (16) and a run scored.
Jose Siri went 1-4 with a home run (8) and 2 RBI.
Mitch Nay went 1-4 with a solo home run (11).
Chris Okey went 2-3 with a solo home run (5). OPS up to .834 in 101 AA PAs.
Wyatt Strahan threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.

    The Daytona Tortugas lost 4-1.

Andy Sugilio went 3-4 with a double.
Hendrik Clementina went 1-4 with a double and a run scored.
Bruce Yari went 2-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Drew Mount went 2-4 with a double.

    The Dayton Dragons lost 4-2.

Mariel Bautista went 1-5 with an RBI.
Connor Curlis allowed 3 earned in 5 innings with 7 strikeouts.
Eduardo Salazar threw 3 shutout innings with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

    The Billings Mustangs lost 6-3.

Quin Cotton went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Leonardo Seminati went 2-4 with a double and a solo home run (3).
Jake Stevenson threw 1 and a third perfect innings with 3 strikeouts.

    The Greeneville Reds lost 8-7.

Ivan Johnson went 2-5 with a steal and a run scored.
Tyler Callihan went 3-5 with a home run (1), 2 runs scored, and he had 2 RBI.
Allan Cerda went 2-4 with a double, walk, home run (5), 2 runs scored, and he had 2 RBI.
Garrett Wolforth went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

The AZL Reds had the night off.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Friday, July 5

Gavin LaValley, Chattanooga: 3-3, HR, 2 doubles, RBI. LaValley is now 24 and has never quite become the slugger (only his 5th HR on the season, same as TJ Friedl and Brantley Bell) that many figured he could develop into when he was drafted in the 4th round in 2014. But the Oklahoma native is finally starting to figure out AA pitching after a year and a half of floundering there, so he still might keep climbing the org ladder by doing just enough.

In other action, on a night where the farm nearly pulled an 0fer if not for a big night by Dayton and a W by the Reds representatives down in the Dominican

Narciso Crook, Louisville: 1-4, HR, RBI

    Christian Colon, Louisville: 2-4, 2B

Juan Graterol, Louisville: 2-4, HR, RBI

Sherman Johnson, Louisville: 2-4, 2 doubles

Tristan Archer, Louisville: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 3 strikeouts

Taylor Trammell, Chattanooga: 1-2, 2 walks. He is 6 for 15 with 3 walks so far in July.

Jose Siri, Chattanooga: 2-5, 2B, RBI

Mitch Nay, Chattanooga: 1-3, 2 walks

    Stuart Fairchild, Daytona: 2-4, triple

Jose Garcia, Daytona: 2-4, 2 doubles

Mark Kolozsvary, Daytona: 1-4, 2B, RBI

    Mariel Bautista, Dayton: 3-4

Pabel Manzanero, Dayton: 3-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI. One of the best hitters in Dayton this year, which says a bit more about the Dayton lineup than about Manzanero.

    Brian Rey, Dayton: 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI

Bren Spillane, Dayton: 2-5, 2 doubles, RBI. Been a brutal year for Spillane, who is doing his Chris Davis impression but in A Ball.

Morgan Loftstrom, Dayton: 3-5, 2 doubles, RBI

Connor Bennett, Dayton: 1.1 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

    Blake Trahan, Greeneville: 2-4. Rehabbin'.

    Ivan Johnson, Greeneville: 1-3, BB

Cameron Warren, Greeneville: 1-4, stolen base. Org debut for the large Texas Tech 1B.

Tyler Garbee, Greeneville: 3.1 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs

TJ Hopkins, Billings: 2-4, stolen base

    Cash Case, Billings: 1-3

Ryan Dunne, Billings: 1.2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

Johnnie Schneider, Billings: 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Debby Santana, AZL Reds: 2-3, HR, 4 RBI. First HR in 11 games so far for the 18-year-old slugger from the Dominican Republic.

Wendell Marrero, AZL Reds: 3-4. The 11th rounder out of Puerto Rico has been hot at the plate, slashing .357/.460/.500 in 12 games.

Luis Lopez, AZL Reds: 2-4, 2B, RBI

Esmil Torres, DSL Reds: 2-4, HR, BB, 3 RBI. Fairly solid season so far for the still just 17-year-old infielder from the Dominican.

    Jose Acosta, DSL Reds: 3-5

Junior Melo, DSL Reds: 2-5, 2B

lvin Fernandez, DSL Reds: 2-3, 2 BB, RBI

Lenniell Perez, DSL Reds: 2-4, 2B

Deybert Lozano, DSL Reds: 1-3, BB

Williams Yanez, DSL Reds: 3 innings, 0 hits, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Cursory catchup of Saturday, July 6 games . . .

MiLPoD: Daniel Vellojin, DSL – It’s not every day that a catcher legs out 2 triples. Of course, it’s not every day that you see a 160-pound catcher with a 1.041 OPS. Vellojin, 19, is a switch-hitter from Colombia.

    Honorable Mention: Jose Franco, DSL – 5 shutout innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 6 K. Righty, 18, with a 1.61 ERA.

    Also:

Nick Lodolo, Billings – Top draft choice fanned 5 in 2.1 scoreless IP. Still no earned runs. Or walks.

Omar Conoropo, Billings – Piggybacked Lodolo with 1 run in 5.2 innings.

    Lyon Richardson, Dayton – 1 run in 6 innings, 1 walk, 7 K.

Wendell Marrero, AZL – 3-4, double.

Andres Falcon, AZL – 4 perfect innings for 21-year-old Dominican in his second season.

Juan Acosto, DSL – 3-5, triple, OPS 1.111.

HR – Aquino (20), Colon (7), Isabel (21), Beltre (2), Cerda (6). Isabel and Cerda lead their leagues.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Sunday, July 7

MiLPoD: Sal Romano, Louisville . . . Big Sally, who has stunk all year in the Bats’ bullpen, notched his second straight start of 4 scoreless innings. This time, unlike the previous, he allowed a hit. On both occasions, he fanned 5 without a walk. What up?

Honorable Mention: James Free, Billings . . . 3-4, double, HR. First pro homer for The Jeweler, an undrafted free agent catcher from Pacific with an OPS of 1.186.

Honorable Mention: Taylor Trammell, Chattanooga . . . 1-2 with an RBI in the Futures Game, and a straight steal of home that was apparently stolen from him by the honestly mistaken ump. Also won the dugout interview between innings.

Also notable on a day when the organization went 0-8 . . .

    Louisville

Brian O’Grady: 2-4, double, HR (22), 2 RBI. Played CF.

Christian Colon: 2-4, double. Former first-rounder (2010) posting an OPS of .811.

    Sherman Johnson: HR (4).

Wandy Peralta: Back in action. Chucked a perfect inning, 1 K.

    Chattanooga

Jose Siri: 3-4, RBI, 2 SB (20). Sixty percent of the Lookouts’ hits.

    Ibandel Isabel: HR (22).

    Reiver Sanmartin: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Lefty’s adjusting to Double-A.

    Ryan Nutof: 2 perfect innings, 1 K.

    Cory Thompson: 1 perfect, 1 K.

    Daytona

Jonathan India: 2-4, double, RBI, SB (5). Led off.

    Yonathan Mendoza: HR (2).

    Alejo Lopez: 2-4, walk, run.

    Jared Solomon: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R.

Michael Byrne: 2 K in 1.1 hitless IP.

    Billings

Matt Lloyd: 2-5, double, 2 RBI.

Alberto Gonzalez: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 walk, 6 K. Over his last 3 outings, the 19-year-old righthander, drafted last year in the 18th round, has allowed just 1 hit in 7.2 innings, with 1 BB and 12 strikeouts.

    Jake Stevenson: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. Tenth-round pick from Minnesota rocks an early 1.29 ERA.

    Dayton

    Bren Spillane: 2-3, double, walk.

    Greeneville

Garrett Wolforth: HR (1), 2 RBI. Round 14 from Nova Southeastern.

Cameron Warren: 2 walks, SB (2). Second game and he’s already 24.

    Graham Ashcraft: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K. Round 6 pick has been on twice, off twice.

Andy Fisher: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K. Five outings for the undrafted lefty, all multiple innings, all excellent. ERA (14.2 IP) 0.61.

    AZL

Sebastian Almonte: 2-2, double, RBI. Relieved Rylan Thomas at 3B.

    Ashton Creal: 2-4, double.

Luis Lopez: 1-2, double, 2 HBP. Ow.

    Pedro Moreno: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

MiPOD Nate Scantlin went 2-4 with a double and a solo home run (1). The 2017 15th rounder has started Red hot in Billings. His great day at the plate last night has raised his line to .281/.361/.531 in his first 36 PA.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Tuesday, July 9

Mitch Nay, Chattanooga: 3-4, HR, 2 doubles, 3 RBI. It's been a strong campaign for the 25-year-old former first round prep pick from Arizona, he's slashing .307/.364/.573 with 12 HRs and 20 doubles. Gotta figure he could do some damage for the Bats, but the Lookouts might need him more.

In other action, with only three teams on the farm in action:

Alfredo Rodriguez, Chattanooga: 2-5. Two more singles for the master of them.

Ibandel Isabel, Chattanooga: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI. Southern League leader in HRs, and it's not close as the man in the second spot has 6 less longballs than our guy I-Squared. Also worth noting he's been playing some corner OF of late.

Brantley Bell, Chattanooga: 1-4, HR, RBI

Scott Moss, Chattanooga: 6 innings, 3 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts, 2 runs, 1 earned run. Another strong start from Moss, though with his most walks in over a month. Even with an insane amount of walks earlier in the year, Moss has managed to put together a pretty strong campaign.

Jonathan India, Daytona: 1-4, BB, stolen base

Stuart Fairchild, Daytona: 2-4, 2 doubles

Shard Munroe, Daytona: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI

Connor Curlis, Daytona: 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs. Can't ask for too much more than this for an impromptu start. Curlis was a 24th rounder last year out of Ohio State (he's a native of Findlay).

Michael Byrne, Daytona: 1.2 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 1 strikeout

Dionar Lopez, Daytona: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 1 strikeout

Esmil Torres, DSL Reds: 1-5, 3B, BB, 3 RBI

Thomas Lora, DSL Reds: 3-4, 2B, 2 walks, stolen base. You may notice a lot of DSL Reds walked once or twice in this game, they had 12 total in today's game as a team.

Jose Acosta, DSL Reds: 2-5, 2B, BB, RBI, stolen base

Darlin Guzman, DSL Reds: 2-4, 2B, 2 walks, 2 RBI

Daniel Vellojin, DSL Reds: 2-4, 2 walks, RBI

Jeferson Geraldo, DSL Reds: 1-3, 2 walks, RBI. Interesting thing about Jeferson Geraldo is that he's 16 years old, he turns 17 on the last day of July.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Wednesday, July 10

MiLPoD: Leonardo Seminati, Billings . . . 3-5, double, 2 HR (5), 4 RBI. Mired in a trifling slump, the swinging Italian was moved up to the 2 hole and responded with 10 total bases, including long balls in the 7th and 8th. The 20-year-old corner infielder, in his second season, lifted his OPS over 1.000. If Leonardo keeps mashing like this, the Reds will have to go back to his homeland for Raphael and Donatello.

Honorable Mention: Raul Juarez, Greeneville . . . 2-2, double, HR (4), walk, sac fly, 2 runs, 3 RBI. That’ll work out of the 9 hole. The third baseman from Venezuela is in his second tour of Greeneville.

Also notable on a night when the farms went 3-2 and the three rookie clubs combined for 43 hits and 25 runs . . .

    Billings

Eric Yang: 3-5, double, 3 RBI. The 7th-round catcher is 14 for his last 26. OPS of .929.

Edwin Yon: 3-4, walk. Batting .316.

Reyny Reyes: 3-4, double, 2 runs.

Quin Cotton: 2-5, double. Hitting .351.

    Justin McGregor: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K. Low-round pick last year is already 23.

Ian Koch: 2 scoreless IP for the big Leatherneck from Western Illinois.

    Greeneville

    Jose Salvador: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K. Dominican lefty, 19, collects his first win on American soil.

Patrick Raby: Debut for the solid 17th-rounder from Vandy, a Louisville native. Worked a scoreless 9th with 2 hits, a walk, and 2 Ks.

    Carlos Reina: 3-4, 2 doubles, 2 runs, 2 RBI. Venezuelan catcher switch-hits.

AJ Bumpass: Pair of doubles, RBI, in rare start. Bottom of the order went 9 for 14 with 6 extra-base hits.

    Tyler Callihan: 2-4, run.

    Dayton

Bren Spillane: 2-4, HR (5). Big fella from Illinois, last year’s third-rounder, may have figured something out. He’s been moved up to the third slot in the order with a run of 15 hits in his last 9 games and a significant reduction in strikeouts. It leaves him at .203, which gives you a notion of where he was.

    Mariel Bautista: 2-3, HR (6), 2 RBI.

Pabel Manzanero: 3-4, double, RBI. Cleanup dude is 11 for 22 in his last 5 games.

    Eduardo Salazar: 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

Adrian Rodriguez: 3 solid innings marred only by a solo shot.

Matt Pidich: Earned a save with 2 scoreless innings.

    Daytona

Jonathan India: Doubled in the 4th inning and replaced.

Yon Mendoza: 2-4, 2 runs, RBI in relief of India.

Lorenzo Cedrola: 2-3, sac, 3 RBI. Replaced Andy Sugilio in 4th.

    Bruce Yari: HR (6).

    Mac Sceroler: 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K.

    Andy Cox: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R.

    DSL

    Esmil Torres: 3-6, double, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB (6).

Jose Acosta: 2-5. Average slipped to .417.

Darlin Guzman: Singled, scored, and left the game.

Junior Melo: 3-5, RBI. At 22, in the DSL, he should be Senior Melo.

Fraudy Rodriguez: 1-3, RBI, 2 walks. Catcher, 17 and 5-foot-9. First name doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

    Yoel Diaz: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Thursday, July 11

MiPOD Carlos Carreno allowed a run in 6 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts. The 20 year old had a rough year last year after two years of success. This start is a step in the right direction.

Nick Longhi went 1-4 with a solo home run (11).
Keury Mella allowed 2 runs in 6 and a third innings with a walk and 7 strikeouts.

    The Chattanooga Lookouts lost 6-2.

Calten Daal went 2-4 with an RBI.
Tony Santillan went 1-2 at the plate. He threw 3 shutout innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts on the mound. Looked great, but then exited the game while warming up in the fourth with an arm injury

The Daytona Tortugas had their game rained out.

    The Dayton Dragons lost 1-0.

Jay Schuyler went 3-3 with a walk.
    Miguel Hernandez went 2-4.

Why are we rushing Santillian back from a shoulder problem and risking his future?

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Friday, July 12

Cameron Warren, Greeneville: 3-5, 3B, 4 RBI. Not a whole lot of options with both Chattanooga and Daytona not playing full games, so we'll go a little old school and give it to the RBI man. The big first baseman should be a fun one to keep track of, doesn't look great in a pair of jeans but all he did at Texas Tech was hit and he's brought his bat to Greeneville with him. The Dayton Dragons could use a man like him.

    In other action:

Alex Blandino, Louisville: 2-5, 2 RBI

    Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-4, 2B

    Stuart Turner, Louisville: 2-4, RBI

Blake Trahan, Louisville: 3-4, 2 doubles, RBI

Sal Romano, Louisville: 4 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs. His run of scoreless innings comes to an end as Romano comes out of the bullpen for this one and surrenders a pair of solo HRs.

Alex Powers, Louisville: 1 inning, 0 hits, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs. First game back in about a month and a half for Powers, who might just be a bullpen option for the Reds this summer.

Michael Siani, Dayton: 2-5, stolen base

Pabel Manzanero, Dayton: 2-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI

    Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 1-3, BB

    Jerry D'Andrea, Dayton: 3 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Ivan Johnson, Greeneville: 2-4, 2B, BB

    Danny Lantigua, Greeneville: 2-2

AJ Bumpass, Greeneville: 1-3, RBI, stolen base

Tyler Calihan, Greeneville: 1-4, BB, RBI

Justin Gomez, Greeneville: 2-5, RBI, stolen base

Juan Manuel Abril, Greeneville: 5 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 0 runs

Tyler Garbee, Greeneville: 4 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 0 runs

    Victor Ruiz, Billings: 2-3

Matt Lloyd, Billings: 1-3, HR, BB

Reniel Ozuna, Billings: 2-4, HR, 2B, RBI

Jonathan Willems, Billings: 2-3. The 20-year-old infielder from Curacao had rough sledding in Dayton but is finding Montana more favorable as he is batting .329 in Billings.

Nick Lodolo, Billings: 2 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts, 2 runs. First earned runs far for Lodolo, who has yet to walk a batter in any of his outings. The runs came via a HR from Micah Bello.

Omar Conoropo, Billings: 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs

Ashton Creal, AZL Reds: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Jose Tello, AZL Reds: 2-4, HR, RBI

Caleb Van Blake, AZL Reds: 1-3, HR, RBI

Spencer Stockton, AZL Reds: 3 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 1 run

Jacques Pucheu, AZL Reds: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

Daniel Vellojin, DSL Reds: 1-3, BB, RBI

Edison Ovalles, DSL Reds: 2-2, 3B, BB, RBI

    Luis Cabrera, DSL Reds: 3-4, 3B, 2B, 3 RBI
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Catch-up capsule for games of Saturday, July 13

MiLPoD: Brian O’Grady . . . The O’Grady train rolls on with 2 home runs (24) and 8 RBIs. Thing is, Triple-A is not the only level with a lively ball.

    Also . . .

Josh Van Meter: 3-4, triple, walk. Now batting .358 with a 1.126 OPS.

    Jose Garcia: 2-2, double, walk.

Andy Sugilio: 2-3, triple, in second game of Daytona’s doubleheader sweep.

Alexis Diaz: First 5 innings of Dayton’s shutout. Allowed just 2 hits and raised W-L to 7-4.

Lucas Sims: A run in 5 innings.

    Austin Orewiler: Same as Sims.

    HR: Aquino (21), Fairchild (8), Bumpass (2), Tromp (2), Castro (1).

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Sunday, July 14

MiLPoD: Andy Fisher, Greeneville . . . Undrafted lefthander from Illinois earned his first start and worked 6 strong innings, giving up 1 run and walking nobody. His relief appearances had been so dominant that the single run swelled his ERA to 0.87.

Honorable Mention: Brian O’Grady, Louisville . . . 2-4, double, HR (25). Third long one in 2 days for the Rutgers raker. Trails only Adam Duvall, by 2, for the league lead.

Also notable on a day when the farms broke even, 3-3, Chattanooga was rained out again, and Schebler showed up in Arizona . . .

    Dayton

Pabel Manzanero: 3-4, triple, 4 RBI. Bases-clearing, two-out triple in the sixth wiped out the Dragons’ original 5-0 deficit and drove home the game-winning runs.

Mike Siani: 3-5, 3 runs, RBI.

    Claudio Finol: 2-4, 2 runs.

Ryan Campbell: 2 scoreless innings, W. Last year’s 5th-rounder pitched pretty well as a rookie in Billings.

    Clate Schmidt: 2 hitless innings, 2 K, Sv (1).

    Daytona

Alejo Lopez: 3-4, double, 2 RBI.

Stuart Fairchild: HR (9). Second day in a row.

Jose Garcia: 1-3, double, 2 RBI, HBP.

Mark Kolozsvary: 2 HBP, 2 runs.

Wendolyn Bautista: 3 runs in 6 IP for a quality start.

Dauri Moreta: Scoreless 7th and 8th.

Julio Pinto: Big Venezuelan fanned the side in the 9th for his 5th save.

    Billings

TJ Hopkins: 2-4, triple, RBI. Center fielder from South Carolina drafted in 9th round.

Reyne Reyes: 2-4, 3 runs. Played SS.

Nate Scantlin: 2-4, run, 2 RBI.

Victor Ruiz: 2-4, sac fly. Converted catcher holding down 3B.

    Frainger Aranguren: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Picked up the W as Mustangs came from behind.

    Jake Stevenson: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, Sv (3). Minnesota product, 10th round, has given up just 4 hits and a run in 8.2 innings.

    Louisville

    Christian Colon: 2-4, double.

    Blake Trahan: 2-4, double.

    AZL

Scott Schebler: 2-4, RBI. Played CF in rehab appearance.

Caleb Van Blake: 2-5, HR (3), 4 RBI. Round 37.

Andres Falcon: A hit and a walk in 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the slender 21-year-old Dominican. The 6-3, 165-pound righthander has allowed only 5 hits and 1 run in his last 15 IP.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Monday, July 15

MiPOD Mitch Nay went 2-3 with a walk, double, and a run scored in game one and 1-1, walked, was hit by a pitch, and scored a run in game two. The 25 year old is getting a little long in the tooth, but the 2017 Rule V draft pick is really mashing in AA posting a .313/.375/.575 line in 261 PA in his second tour of AA.

Honorable Mention Michael Siani went 2-3 with 2 walks, a steal (26), and he scored 3 runs. The 20 year old has seen his BA climb up to .240 and his OBP is now .327. Hopefully the power is brewing under the surface. He is hitting .272 since 6/11.

    The Louisville Bats lost 2-1.

Narciso Crook went 2-4 with a triple.
Tejay Antone allowed 2 runs in 6 innings with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Three straight starts with 2 ER or less for Tejay, although you hate to see the walks. 4.44 AAA ERA.

The Chattanooga Lookouts lost 4-3, 6-2 in a double header.

    Game 1: 4-3 loss.

Tyler Stephenson went 1-3 with a walk, double, and he scored a run.
Packy Naughton allowed a run in 3 innings with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
Ryan Lillie allowed 2 runs in 4 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts.

    Game 2: 6-2 loss.

Gavin LaValley went 1-3 with a run scored.
Reiver Sanmartin allowed 2 earned in 5 and a third innings with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts.

The Daytona Tortugas had the day off.

    The Dayton Dragons won 9-1.

Claudio Finol went 3-4 with a double, walk, and he had an RBI.
Bren Spillane went 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Pabel Manzanero went 1-4 with a walk, home run (10), and 2 RBI.
Jay Schuyler went 1-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
Miguel Hernandez went 2-4 with an RBI.
Eduardo Salazar threw 4 and two thirds shutout innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Adrian Rodriguez allowed a run in 2 and a third innings with 3 strikeouts.

    The Billings Mustangs lost 12-1.

Jonathan Willems went 2-4 with a double.
James Free went 2-4 with an RBI.

    The Greeneville Reds won 5-2.

Cameron Warren went 1-4 with a 3-run home run (1).
Garrett Wolforth went 2-3 with a walk, 2 doubles, and 2 RBI.
Jose Salvador allowed 2 runs in 5 innings with 6 strikeouts.
Alec Byrd threw 2 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts.
Tanner Cooper threw 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts.

The AZL Reds had the night off.
