Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 3-3, 2 HRs, 2 walks, 2 RBI. It's not easy to win PotD as an AZL Red, but with the right kind of performance on the right kind of day, anything is possible (well, besides trying to overthrow the Cuban government with a CIA fail squad, maybe). Castro gets attention for his name but he's letting his bat do the talking, the 20-year-old Dominican outfielder is slashing .323/.377/.613 out in Arizona.

Honorable mention: Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-3, HR, BB, RBI. That's 22 HRs now for the resurgent Aquino. July has been his worst month so far, 'only' putting up a .842 OPS so far.

Keury Mella, Louisville: 6 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs. Mella, forever a tease who puts together good stretches and then brutal ones, is currently doing the former with a pair of solid outings his last two times out now.

Athletic outfielder, hampered by injuries in his career and overshadowed by teammates with the Bats, has put together a strong season in Louisville and Chattanooga. Up to .303, with an .872 OPS, in his first Triple-A opportunity.

Honorable Mention: James Free, Billings . . . The Jeweler, an undrafted catcher from Pacific, went 4 for 4 with a double and walk, raising his average to .423 and OPS to 1.175.

Also notable on a day when the farms went 2-5, most losing big, but the DSL Reds—gotta love ’em—ran their record to 27-12 . . .

Thomas Lora: 3 doubles for the 17-year-old middle infielder.

Jose Acosta: Switch-hitting infielder, 19, raised his average to an absurd and league-leading (duh) .426, with a 1.126 OPS. Went 3-4 with 2 walks and a SB (13).

Alex Blandino, Louisville: 3-3, HR, BB, RBI. Alessandre Blandino is probably older than you think, he turns 27 in November, but he's got a .421 OBP for the Bats so far this season coming off injury, so don't write the Stanford baseball product off just yet.

Honorable mention: Scott Moss, Chattanooga: 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 1 run. A good rebound effort for Moss after a dud his last time out. After walking 33 batters in his first 38 innings of the season, the left hander has cut that number down to 21 walks in his last 58 innings.

MiPOD Tyler Garbee threw 5 shutout innings with a walk and 9 strikeouts. The 22-year old 19th rounder has been magnificent in his first two professional starts sporting a 17:1 K:BB ratio.

MiLPoD: Brian Rey, Dayton . . . Say what you will about RBIs, 8 is a goodly number of them for one game, not to mention a Dragons record. A pair of homers (8) can’t be sneezed at, either. There was also a stinkin’ double for the smallish outfielder from Miami Dade, drafted last year in the 13th round.

Honorable Mention: Mac Sceroler, Daytona . . . Allowed only 2 hits and no runs over 6 smooth innings. Walked 1 and struck out 7. The Tortugas had a shutout working until the ninth, when defeat ensued, 2-1.
