Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Tuesday, July 16

Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 3-3, 2 HRs, 2 walks, 2 RBI. It's not easy to win PotD as an AZL Red, but with the right kind of performance on the right kind of day, anything is possible (well, besides trying to overthrow the Cuban government with a CIA fail squad, maybe). Castro gets attention for his name but he's letting his bat do the talking, the 20-year-old Dominican outfielder is slashing .323/.377/.613 out in Arizona.

Honorable mention: Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-3, HR, BB, RBI. That's 22 HRs now for the resurgent Aquino. July has been his worst month so far, 'only' putting up a .842 OPS so far.

In other action, with only the AZL and DSL teams picking up W's:

Keury Mella, Louisville: 6 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs. Mella, forever a tease who puts together good stretches and then brutal ones, is currently doing the former with a pair of solid outings his last two times out now.

Joel Kuhnel, Louisville: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts. Kuhnel has 10 strikeouts and a 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings with Louisville so far.

Gavin LaValley, Chattanooga: 1-3, HR, RBI. In a double header the Lookouts managed just 5 total hits and one run, this was that run.

Yonathan Mendoza, Daytona: 2-4, BB, RBI

    Hendrik Clementina, Daytona: 2-4

    Bruce Yari, Daytona: 2-5

Connor Curlis, Daytona: 4 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts, 1 run.

John Ghyzel, Daytona: 2 innings, 0 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

    Cameron Warren, Greeneville: 1-4, RBI

    Garrett Wolforth, Greeneville: 2-4, 2B

Luke Berryhill, Greeneville: 1-2, 2 walks. Org debut for the singing South Carolina catcher.

    Raul Juarez, Greeneville: 1-4, 2B

Patrick Raby, Greeneville: 1.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 walks, or runs, 1 strikeout

Eric Yang, Billings: 1-2, 2 walks, RBI. #YangGang

Cash Case, Billings: 1-4, HR, 4 RBI

Nate Scantlin, Billings: 2-4, 3B. 20-year-old outfielder from Rose Hill, KS, is hitting a solid .292/.370/.500 since joining the Mustangs last month. He does have a failed drug test to his name, for those concerned with such things.

Ryan Dunne, Billings: 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 earned runs

    Jose Tello, AZL Reds: 2-5

Caleb Van Blake, AZL Reds: 2-4, 3B, 2 RBI

Debby Santana, AZL Reds: 3-4, 2 RBI. Debby is having a solid season so far, but his thunder has been usurped by Comrade Fidel.

Jacques Pucheu, AZL Reds: 3 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 0 runs

Maiker Manuel, AZL Reds: 5 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts, 2 runs

Thomas Lora, DSL Reds: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, stolen base

Ilvin Fernandez, DSL Reds: 1-3, RBI

Jose Acosta, DSL Reds: 1-3, 2B, BB, RBI

Darlin Guzman, DSL Reds: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Jesus Rojas, DSL Reds: 4 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Wednesday, July 17

MiLPoD: Narciso Crook, Louisville . . . 3-3, triple, HR (4), walk, 5 RBI. Athletic outfielder, hampered by injuries in his career and overshadowed by teammates with the Bats, has put together a strong season in Louisville and Chattanooga. Up to .303, with an .872 OPS, in his first Triple-A opportunity.

Honorable Mention: James Free, Billings . . . The Jeweler, an undrafted catcher from Pacific, went 4 for 4 with a double and walk, raising his average to .423 and OPS to 1.175.

Also notable on a day when the farms went 2-5, most losing big, but the DSL Reds—gotta love ’em—ran their record to 27-12 . . .

    DSL

Thomas Lora: 3 doubles for the 17-year-old middle infielder.

Jose Acosta: Switch-hitting infielder, 19, raised his average to an absurd and league-leading (duh) .426, with a 1.126 OPS. Went 3-4 with 2 walks and a SB (13).

Ilvin Fernandez: 3-5, double, 3 RBI. Another 17-y-o middle infielder in his maiden season.

    Samuel Colmenarez: 3-4, 3 runs.

Junior Tamares: 2-4, walk, 2 runs leading off. Bats left, plays everywhere, 17, hitting .325.

Zamil Castillo: 2 perfect innings for Dominican lefty.

    Louisville

Scott Schebler: 2-5, RBI. Returned from rehab.

Nick Longhi: 3-4, double, 2 runs.

Alex Blandino: 2 walks, 2 runs.

Josh VanMeter: Left the game early.

Alex Wood: 2 scoreless innings, 3 K, and would have gone longer if the game hadn’t been delayed by rain.

    Brad Markey: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R.

    Daytona

Jonathan India: Didn’t finish or get a hit, but back in the lineup, leading off.

Bruce Yari: 2-2 in relief of India, triple, HR (7).

    Mark Kolozsvary: 2-4, HR (5).

    Drew Mount: 2-4, RBI.

    Mac Sceroler: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K. In line for a win until disastrous 9th.

    Dauri Moreta: 2 IP, zeros, 3 K.

    Dayton

    Mike Siani: 2-4, SB (27).

Bren Spillane: Left the game early.

Eddy Demurias: 2 hits, 0 runs over 3.1 IP.

    Greeneville

AJ Bumpass: 2-4, double, SB (3). Bearcat.

Raul Wallace: 1.2 IP, 5 K. Do the math.

    Billings

Eric Yang: Former UC Santa Barbara star, a catcher drafted in the 7th round, checks in at .377 after going 3 for 4.

Nate Scantlin: 2 doubles. Seems to be showing up here more often, perhaps due to his .901 OPS.

Nick Lodolo: Fanned 5 and gave up a run in 2.2 innings.

    AZL

    Wendell Marrero: triple, walk.

Yan Conreras: 1-2, walk, SB (4). Puerto Rican shortstop, round 12.

Spencer Stockton: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K. Tough loss for newbie, 23, who was signed a week ago from Indy ball. Has fanned 13 in his first 9 innings.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Games of Friday, July 19 (a day which may live in Reds infamy)

Narciso Crook, Louisville: 3-4, HR, 3B, BB, RBI. Hard to tell if this breakout has any legs or it's a juiced ball mirage, but the 24-year-old outfielder has been crushing it in Louisville to the tune of a .946 OPS in a little under 50 games.

In other action, with Daytona only getting a few frames in but everyone else filling the entire docket:

Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-5, HR, RBI. 23rd HR for The Punisher.

Alex Blandino, Louisville: 1-4, HR, RBI

Sherman Johnson, Louisville: 2-4, 2B, BB

Blake Trahan, Louisville: 2-5, 2 RBI

Chadwick Tromp, Louisville: 1-1, HR, 3 RBI. The Lavarnway Special.

Vladimir Gutierrez, Louisville: 6 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts, 1 run. Rare decent start from the Cuban RHP takes his ERA down below 7.00 for the first time in a while.

RJ Alaniz, Louisville: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 0 runs. Might see Alaniz up with the Reds before too long given the way the bullpen has been going.

Mitch Nay, Chattanooga: 2-3, 2B, BB

Tyler Stephenson, Chattanooga: 1-3, BB. Kind of a typical Stephenson offensive game.

    Calten Daal, Chattanooga: 1-4, 2B

Mariel Bautista, Dayton: 1-4, HR, BB, RBI

Cameron Warren, Dayton: 2-2, 2B, 2 BB. I noted last week that Dayton could use a man like Warren and it seems the Reds agreed.

    Jay Schuyler, Dayton: 2-4, RBI

Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 1-4, HR, 3 RBI

    Randy Ventura, Dayton: 2-4, RBI

Adrian Rodriguez, Dayton: 5 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 1 run, 0 earned runs

    Jerry D'Andrea, Dayton: 4 innings, 0 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Ivan Johnson, Greeneville: 2-4, 2 doubles

AJ Bumpass, Greeneville: 1-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI

    Luke Berryhill, Greeneville: 1-3, 2B

Tyler Garbee, Greeneville: 5 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts, 2 runs

Patrick Raby, Greeneville: 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts, 0 runs

Matt Gill, Greeneville: 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 0 runs

    Reniel Ozuna, Billings: 1-2, BB

Eric Yang, Billings: 2-4. This year's 7th rounder is slashing a strong .386/.486/.491 so far.

Matt Lloyd, Billings: 2-3, 2B, BB, RBI

Miguel Medrano, Billings: 5 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs. 21-year-old Dominican RHP lowers his ERA to 2.54 in 7 starts in Billings this season

Ian Koch, Billings: 2 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Wendell Marrero, AZL Reds: 1-1, 2B, RBI

Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 3-4, HR, BB, RBI. El Comandante is staying hot.

Caleb Van Blake, AZL Reds: 2-5, RBI

Debby Santana, AZL Reds: 2-5, 2 RBI

Andres Falcon, AZL Reds: 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

Luis Cabrera, DSL Reds: 1-3, 2B, 2 BB

Wilmer Alcantara, DSL Reds: 1-2, 2 BB, RBI

Fraudy Rodriguez, DSL Reds: 2-4, 3 RBI

Martin Salazar, DSL Reds: 5 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 0 runs

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Games of Saturday, July 20, abbreviated

MiLPoD: Andy Fisher, Dayton . . . 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 walks, 8 K in his first professional start. Who knows if this undrafted lefty, a sidewinding slowballer from Illinois, has big things ahead? But at the least, his brilliant minor-league takeoff—0.72 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 34 K and 3 BB in 25.2 innings over 2 levels--has turned some heads and enabled his young teammates to play some winning baseball.

    Honorable Mention: Connor Curlis, Dayton . . . 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K. The lefthanded Buckeye completed the Big Ten shutout, 1-0, and picked up the W.

    Also . . .

    4 hits: Michael Beltre.

3 hits: AJ Bumpass (3 doubles), Samuel Colmenarez (triple), Edison Ovalles, Elly De La Cruz (2 SB).

HR: Beltre (3, second game); Cameron Warren (2), only run of Dragons’ game; Tyler Callihan (2, 3 RBI); Blake Trahan (1); Scott Schebler (4); Mitch Nay (13).

Jesus Rojas: 1 run in 5 IP.

John Ghyzel: 1 hit in 3.2 IP.

    Wendolyn Bautista: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K, complete game.

    Jose Salvador: 5 IP, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K.

    Jake Gilbert: 1 R, 5 K in 4 IP.

    Joe Mantiply: 3 shutout innings.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Sunday, July 21

MiLPoD: Taylor Trammell, Chattanooga . . . 3-4, double, triple, walk. It was a slow night on the farms, but an encouraging one for the struggling top prospect, who raised his OPS within one good rip of .700.

Also notable on a 2-5 day when the Lookouts, who I thought two weeks ago were pretty good, lost their 14th consecutive game . . .

    Louisville

    Aristides Aquino: HR (24).

Narciso Crook: HR (7). Putting himself on the map.

Blake Trahan: Homered for the second straight day (2).

Scott Schebler: Also homered for the second straight day (5).

Stuart Turner: HR (1). Remember him?

    Keury Mella: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 walks, 3 K, W.

    AZL

Caleb Van Blake: 1-3, HR (4), walk, 3 runs, 3 RBI. Late-rounder from Cal-Davis rocking an early .979 OPS.

Debby Santana: 2-4, run, RBI. Batting .315 and still only 18.

Fidel Castro: 2-5, 2 runs, RBI.

Wendell Marrero: 2-3, HBP, 3 RBI. Round 11 pick from Puerto Rico, 18, pushed his OPS to .901.

Dannysmel Tavarez: Dominican righthander tossed 4 scoreless innings of relief, giving up 1 hit and snatching the W, in his first stateside appearance. Just up from the amazing DSL Reds.

    Chattanooga

Gavin LaValley: 2-4, double, HR (7). OPS .748.

    Brantley Bell: Pinch double.

Tyler Jay: 2 scoreless innings, 3 K. Fifth-year lefty was a first-rounder for the Twins.

    Greeneville

Tyler Callihan: With a single and double, the highly touted third-rounder nudged his OPS just over .700 in just under 100 PA.

Garrett Wolforth: 2-4, run. Round 14 pick, 21, has staked his claim to the cleanup spot.

    Daytona

Andy Sugilio: 2-5, double, RBI. Tugas’ leadoff man is hanging in there at .310.

    Lorenzo Cedrola: 3-4, 3 runs.

Drew Mount: Couple singles, couple RBI.

    Dayton

Mike Siani: 2-3, walk, RBI. No steals, but caught for the 10th time.

    Jay Schuyler: 2-4, run, RBI.

    Miguel Hernandez: Double, run, RBI.

Carlos Machorro: 3 crisp, scoreless innings.

    Billings

    Cash Case: Single, 2 walks.

Nate Scantlin: 2 singles, run, SB (2).

Andrew McDonald: Tall Cincinnatian (Mason HS), drafted last year out of Virginia Tech, worked 2.1 scoreless innings.

    Francis Peguero: Threw a hitless 9th with 2 K.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Monday, July 22

MiPOD Taylor Trammel went 2-5 with a solo home run (6). Ladies and gentlemen, he's heating up. That's back to back MiPOD for Mr. Swift. Only 2 K in his last four games as his K rate craters and his ISO makes it into triple digits. Perhaps all is not lost.

Honorable mention Yassel Pino went 4-4 with a run scored and he had an RBI. That's a way for a 29th round pick to get noticed.

The Louisville Bats had the day off.

    The Chattanooga Lookouts won 3-2.

Tyler Stephenson went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Jonathan India went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Gavin LaValley went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Alex Wood (rehab) allowed a run in 6 innings on 4 hits, no walks, and he struck out 4.
Juan Martinez threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.

    The Daytona Tortugas lost 8-7.

Mac Sceroler allowed 2 runs in 5 innings with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
Connor Bennett threw 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts.

    The Dayton Dragons lost 9-3.

Michael Siani went 1-5 with a steal (30) and a run scored.
Mariel Bautista went 2-4 with a walk and an RBI.
Pabel Manzanero went 2-3, was hit by a pitch, and he scored a run.

    The Billings Mustangs won 3-0.

Eric Yang went 1-3 with a solo home run (2). He was also hit by a pitch.
    Matt Lloyd went 2-4.
Manuel Cachutt threw a shutout inning with 2 strikeouts.
Jeffry Nino threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Ian Koch threw 2 shutout innings with 2 strikeouts.

    The Greeneville Reds were postponed.

    The AZL Reds won 6-5.

Jose Tello went 2-4 with a walk, 2 runs scored, and he had an RBI.
Yassel Pino went 4-4 with a run scored and he had an RBI.
Sebastian Almonte went 2-4 with a double and he scored a run.
Noah Davis threw 3 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Tuesday, July 23

Alex Blandino, Louisville: 3-3, HR, BB, RBI. Alessandre Blandino is probably older than you think, he turns 27 in November, but he's got a .421 OBP for the Bats so far this season coming off injury, so don't write the Stanford baseball product off just yet.

Honorable mention: Scott Moss, Chattanooga: 5.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 1 run. A good rebound effort for Moss after a dud his last time out. After walking 33 batters in his first 38 innings of the season, the left hander has cut that number down to 21 walks in his last 58 innings.

In other action, with only Dayton not seeing the field:

Mitch Nay, Louisville: 1-3. Triple A debut, played 1B.

Blake Trahan, Louisville: 1-3, HR, RBI. After not hitting a single homer in his first 69 games (nice) of this season, the wiry Louisiana native has now homered in 3 straight games. Go figure.

Eric Stout, Louisville: 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

Justin Grimm, Louisville: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts, 0 runs

Stuart Fairchild, Chattanooga: 2-3, BB, stolen base

Jonathan India, Chattanooga: 1-3, stolen base

    Brantley Bell, Chattanooga: 1-3, BB

    Jose Garcia, Daytona: 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI

    Michael Beltre, Daytona: 1-4, RBI

    Drew Mount, Daytona: 2-4

    Bryant Flete, Daytona: 1-3, RBI

Diomar Lopez, Daytona: 2 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts

Dauri Moreta, Daytona: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts

Allan Cerda, Greeneville: 1-3, BB, 2 RBI

AJ Bumpass, Greeneville: 1-3, HR, BB, RBI. .925 OPS so far for the University of Cincinnati product

Tyler Callihan, Greeneville: 2-4, stolen base

    Luke Berryhill, Greeneville: 1-3, RBI

Ranser Amador, Greeneville: 2-4, 3B, RBI

Juan Manuel Abril, Greeneville: 5 innings, 6 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts, 2 runs

Randy Wynne, Greeneville: 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, strikeouts, or runs

Nate Scantlin, Billings: 1-3, BB, stolen base

TJ Hopkins, Billings: 2-4, RBI, stolen base

    Jonathan Willems, Billings: 1-3

Omar Conoropo (5 innings), Johnnie Schneider (2 innings), and Ryan Dunne (2 innings) combined to throw a 3 hit shutout for Billings, who won 1-0 in a 9th inning walkoff from Hopkins.

Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 1-4, 2B

Jose Tello, AZL Reds: 1-4, HR, RBI

Caleb Van Blake, AZL Reds: 1-3, RBI

Ryan Hendrix, AZL Reds: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 2 strikeouts. The 24-year-old hard thrower maintains his 0.00 ERA on the season, having thrown 8 scoreless innings in Chattanooga before injury struck in late April.

Maiker Manuel, AZL Reds: 4.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 0 runs

Junior Tamares, DSL Reds: 2-4, 2B, stolen base

Esmil Torres, DSL Reds: 2-3, HR, 3 RBI, stolen base

Darlin Guzman, DSL Reds: 3-4, RBI, 2 stolen bases. Our DSL Reds are 31-13 so far this season after going 34- 38 last year, and Darlin has been a big reason why.

Junior Melo, DSL Reds: 3-3, 2B, BB, RBI, stolen base

Ilvin Fernandez, DSL Reds: 2-3, RBI

Yoel Diaz, DSL Reds: 3 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 3 strikeouts

    Games of Wednesday, July 24

    MiLPoD: Packy Naughton, Chattanooga . . . 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 walk, 2 K. The Beantown lefthander lowered his two-team ERA to 3.01. Top-performing starter in the system this year.

Honorable Mention: Ibandel Isabel, Chattanooga . . . 3-5, double, HR (24), 3 RBI. On track to lead his league in homers for the second straight season.

Also notable on a night when the farms went 2-6 and Billings somehow made it through a Pioneer League game without taking a walk . . .

    Daytona

Lorenzo Cedrola: 2-4, double, 3 RBI. A .290 career hitter in 5th season.

Yon Mendoza: 2-4, double, 2 runs, RBI.

    Bryant Flete: 1-3, 2 walks, 2 runs.

    Michael Byrne: 2.1 perfect innings.

    Louisville

Narciso Crook: Double, walk, run. Bats' hottest hitter.

Joe Mantiply: Lefty threw 2.2 scoreless.

Alex Powers: Pair of perfect innings. Not on the 40-man. Wish he was.

    Dayton

    Juan Martinez: 1-1, walk, HBP.

Lyon Richardson: Left after 3 scoreless innings and 54 pitches, with 2 walks and 5 K.

Moises Nova, Jerry D’Andrea: Both added 3 innings of 1-hit ball with no walks and 3 K.

    Billings

Quin Cotton: HR (2). Mustangs’ leadoff man.

    Greeneville

Tanner Cooper: 4 hitless innings, 3 walks, 6 K. Community college pick in round 35.

Garrett Wolforth: 3-4, 2 RBI. First sacker hitting cleanup.

AJ Bumpass: 2-5, 2 runs, RBI. Showing that his Bearcat postseason was not a fluke--9 hits in last 6 games.

    Raul Juarez: 2-2, walk.

    AZL

    Ashton Creal: 1-2, 3 walks.

Yamil Nieves: 2-4. Catcher from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Thursday, July 25

MiPOD Tyler Garbee threw 5 shutout innings with a walk and 9 strikeouts. The 22-year old 19th rounder has been magnificent in his first two professional starts sporting a 17:1 K:BB ratio.

Honorable Mention Nick Lodolo allowed a run in 3 innings with 5 strikeouts. You have to love the early returns on the first rounder, too.

    The Louisville Bats lost 5-4.

Tucker Barnhart (rehab) went 1-3 with a double and a run scored.
Brian O’Grady went 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.
Aristides Aquino went 1-3 with a home run (25) and 2 RBI.
Scott Schebler went 2-3 with an RBI.
Alex Blandino went 1-3 with a walk.

    The Chattanooga Lookouts lost 2-1.

Jose Siri went 2-4 with an RBI.
    Alfredo Rodriguez went 2-4.
Taylor Trammell went 2-4 with a double.
Tyler Stephenson went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Tony Santillan allowed 1 earned in 5.2 innings with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.
Jesse Stallings threw 1.1 perfect innings with a strikeout.
Juan Martinez threw a perfect inning.

    The Daytona Tortugas were postponed.

    The Dayton Dragons lost 6-4.

Michael Siani went 1-2 with 2 walks, a steal (31), and he scored a run. He will become an even more interesting prospect if he can tap into that raw power.
Miguel Hernandez went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Kyle Farmer (rehab) went 0-2 with a walk.

    The Billings Mustangs lost 13-11.

Quin Cotton went 2-5 with a triple, home run (3), and he had 2 RBI.
Jonathan Willems went 2-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, and he had 2 RBI.
Edwin Yon went 1-4 with a walk, home run (2), 2 runs scored, and he had 2 RBI.
TJ Hopkins went 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Quincy McAfee went 1-2 with a run scored and he had 2 RBI.

    The Greeneville Reds won 7-0.

    Ranser Amador went 2-5.
Peterson Plaz went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
A.J. Bumpass went 1-3 with a triple and he scored 2 runs.
Carlos Reina wen 2-3 with a walk, double, 2 runs scored, and he had 3 RBI.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Friday, July 26

Keury Mella, Louisville: 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 run. Make it 3 very nice starts in a row for Mella, who lowers his ERA to 4.55 in the process. That doesn't look great, but that's still a better ERA than all but one International League team has on the season.

    In other action:

Christian Colon, Louisville: 2-3, 2B, BB

Aristides Aquino, Louisville: 2-3, HR, 2 RBI. Rapidly approaching the league lead in HRs.

Chadwick Tromp, Louisville: 1-3, HR, RBI

    Jose Siri, Chattanooga: 1-5, 3B, 2 walks, 3 RBI

    Ibandel Isabel, Chattanooga: 2-2, BB

    Gavin LaValley, Chattanooga: 3-4

Chris Okey, Chattanooga: 3-5, HR, 2B, 2 RBI

Brandon Finnegan, Chattanooga: 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs. Ever heard of this guy? Former first-rounder apparently, might still just become something.

We'll plow through the Daytona double header quick. Bruce Yari went 2-3 with a walk and 3 RBI. Hendrik Clementina hit a 2 run HR. Bryan Flete went a combined 3-7 with a solo HR. Yonathan Mendoza hit a solo HR. Pabel Manzanero went a combined 4-7 with a double and an RBI. Wendolyn Bautista went 6 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, and 1 run in the game the Tortugas won.

    Mike Siani, Dayton: 1-4, BB

    Cameron Warren, Dayton: 2-4

Connor Curlis, Dayton: 7 innings, 6 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs. Curlis doesn't get strikeouts, but he does get sorely needed outs for the farm.

Andy Fisher, Dayton: 3 innings, 1 hit, 1 strikeout, 0 runs

Ivan Johnson, Greeneville: 1-4, HR, BB, RBI

Raul Juarez, Greeneville: 2-2, HR, BB, RBI

Eric Yang, Billings: 2-5, HR, 4 RBI. Young backstop continues to swing a hot bat.

Matt Lloyd, Billings: 2-3, 2 BB, RBI

TJ Hopkins, Billings: 2-5,HR, 2 RBI

Quincy McAfee, Billings: 2-4, BB, RBI

Fidel Castro, AZL Reds: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

    Jorge Sequera, AZL Reds: 3-5

Yamil Nieves, AZL Reds: 1-3, BB, RBI

Ryan Hendrix, AZL Reds: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 3 strikeouts. On the comeback trail.

Jacques Pucheu, AZL Reds: 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, 1 run

Junior Tamares, DSL Reds: 2-4, RBI

Jose Acosta, DSL Reds: 2-4, 3B, 3 RBI

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Quick and easy pickings from the games of Saturday, July 27

MiLPoD: Brian Rey, Dayton . . . Say what you will about RBIs, 8 is a goodly number of them for one game, not to mention a Dragons record. A pair of homers (8) can’t be sneezed at, either. There was also a stinkin’ double for the smallish outfielder from Miami Dade, drafted last year in the 13th round.

Honorable Mention: Mac Sceroler, Daytona . . . Allowed only 2 hits and no runs over 6 smooth innings. Walked 1 and struck out 7. The Tortugas had a shutout working until the ninth, when defeat ensued, 2-1.

    Also . . .

Jake Gilbert: 4 shutout innings in first pro start for 6-foot-7, undrafted righthander out of Air Force.

Eric Stout: 4 scoreless innings in abbreviated start.

Spencer Stockton: 2 runs in 6 innings for recent Frontier Leaguer.

Johendi Jiminian: 4 K in 2 scoreless IP.

3 hits: Brian O’Grady (2 doubles); Calten Daal (double); Alejo Lopez (not sure how he gets multiple hits every game and is batting just .283).

    3 walks: Leonardo Seminati.

HR: Aristides Aquino (27, bearing down on league leader Adam Duvall); Mitch Nay (14, first in Triple-A); Jose Siri (9); Miguel Hernandez (4); Caleb Van Blake (5); Wendell Marrero (2); Jose Acosta (2), Lenniell Perez (1).

Also, Aquino leads the league in OPS. He has been a pleasant surprise, should be added back to 40 at year's end if not sooner.
