Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Despite all of the farm clubs losing and the Reds losing again, there were quite a few impressive performances down on the farm.

The initial Minor League Player of the Day goes to the soft tossing lefty acquired in the Sonny Gray deal, Reiver Sanmartin SP, who went 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, no walks, no runs and striking out 6 for the Daytona Tortugas.

Honorable mention Alejo Lopez 2B Daytona Tortugas, who had two hits and two walks on Opening Day. Alejo hasn't got much press around these parts, but he sported a .375 OBP last year and a .388 OBP the year before. He actually had a .455 SLG in 2017, to pair with the great OBP, but didn't hit for much power (including no HR) last year.

The Bats lost their opener 10 – 5.

    Christian Colon 1 – 2, 2 BB
    Josh Van Meter 2 – 5, 2B
    Juan Graterol 2 – 3, 2 BB
    Despaigne 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R (all earned), 2 BB, 5 K

The Lookouts lose in their return to the Reds’ family 6 – 3

TJ Freidl 2 – 5, 3B, threw a runner out at the plate
    Taylor Trammel 0 – 2, 3 BB, 1 R
    Bell 2 – 4, 2B
    TJ Antone 5 2/3, 4 H, 3 R (all earned), 4 BB, 5 K

    The Tortugas get shelled 5 – 1

    Jonathan India 1 – 4, 1 BB, 2 K

Dayton Dragons go down in a blaze 3 – 2

    M Bautista 2 – 4
    Miguel Hernandez 2 – 4
    Campbell 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K (in relief)

Just my annual post in this thread to say how much I appreciate the work and effort put into this everyday. It's an incredible amount of work and its a great and easy way for me to keep track of the future Reds.

That makes it close for honorable mention for him and Alejo, but four for five getting on base is tough to top.

Friedl is the most advanced of the CF replacement candidates. I think he will move up when Senzel does.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Friday, April 5

Tony Santillan, Chattanooga: 5 innings, 4 hits, 2 walks, 8 strikeouts, 1 run. New city, same level and same strong performance from the Texas righthander who is still just 21 (for 10 more days).

Honorable mention: Jay Schuyler, Dayton: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI. Last year's 7th rounder out of the University of San Diego is looking to become the farm's only other catcher of note behind Tyler Stephenson.

In other action, with the Dragons getting the farm system on the board with a W:

Sherman Johnson, Louisville: 1-3, 2 walks. Sherman Johnson is a super utility player who spent 7 seasons in the Angels farm system and got a cup of coffee at the major league level last year. Not to be confused with Sherman Williams, a American Fortune 500 company in the general building materials industry.

Brian O'Grady, Louisville: 2-2, 2 walks. The Rutgers grad is picking up where he left off last year.

Blake Trahan, Louisville: 2-4, 2B, BB

Jesus Reyes, Louisville: 2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 0 runs

Sal Romano, Louisville: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts, 0 runs

Anthony Bass, Louisville: 2 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 1 strikeout

    Taylor Trammell, Chattanooga: 1-4

    Ibandel Isabel, Chattanooga: 1-3, BB

    Tyler Stephenson, Chattanooga: 2-4

Gavin LaValley, Chattanooga: 2-3, 2B, RBI

Joel Kuhnel, Chattanooga: 1.2 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 1 strikeout

Randy Ventura, Daytona: 2-5. The former Braves OF prospect is still playing 2B for the Tortugas.

    Alejo Lopez, Daytona: 1-3, BB

Andy Sugilio, Daytona: 1-3, BB, stolen base

Mark Kolozsvary, Daytona: 2-4, 2B, RBI

    Lorenzo Cedrola, Daytona: 2-4, RBI

Yonathan Mendoza, Daytona: 2-4, RBI. Mendoza is a 25-year-old Venezuelan infielder formerly of the Cleveland and Seattle farms.

Ryan Lillie, Daytona: 6 innings, 5 hits, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts, 4 earned runs. The 22-year-old right hander was victimized by a 3 run HR in the second inning but gave the Turtles 6 innings and left with the game tied.

John Ghyzel, Daytona: 1.1 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 1 strikeout, 0 runs

Mauriel Bautista, Dayton: 1-3, triple, BB, stolen base

    Mike Siani, Dayton: 2-4, RBI

    Bren Spillane, Dayton: 1-3, BB

Miguel Hernandez, Dayton: 2-4, 2B, RBI

    Juan Martinez, Dayton: 1-3, BB

Adrian Rodriguez, Dayton: 3 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 1 run

Andy Cox, Dayton: 1 inning, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 1 strikeout. Picked up a save, you might remember Cox as Nick Senzel's teammate at Tennessee, and they were also teammates in Billings in 2016. Senzel's advanced a little further.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

For not being "of note," Clementina gets a lot of mention round here.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Saturday, April 6

Jose Siri, Lookout: 3-4, BB, 2B, SB. Will the Year 2 Effect push Siri to great heights in the Smokies? He looked uncertain of himself in spring training, lending more credence to the notion that they have to be patient with his development. Ceiling remains high.

Honorable mention: Jhon DeJesus, Eduardo ("Eddie") Salazar and Eddy ("Eduardo") Demurias, Dragons: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K. All these guys with their full season debuts on the road in Bowling Green, which usually fields a good ballclub (this year featuring one of baseball's top prospects in Wander Franco). Note that DeJesus did not pitch at all in 2018.

In other action, on a night when something winning-wise this way came...

Phil Ervin, Bat: 0-2, 2 BB. THE casualty of the Dodgers trade.

Josh VanMeter, Bat: 1-3, BB, 2B

    Aristides Aquino, Bat: 1-4, 2B

Blake Trahan, Bat: 1-2, 2 BB

Keury Mella, Bat: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. Very solid outing. Should he be a starter? Discuss.

Cody Reed, Bat: 2 IP, zeros, 1 BB. Should he relieve? (I have no idea.)

TJ Friedl, Lookout: 2-5, RBI. I like that they have him leading off.

Taylor Trammel, Lookout: 1-4, BB, HR (1), 3 RBI

    Narciso Crook, Lookout: 2-4, 2B

Alex Powers, Lookout: IP, zeros, save (1). There's nothing left for him to prove in AA, yet look at him.

Lorenzo Cedrola, Tortuga: 2-5, 2B, 3B. Led off and played CF. (Anyone who saw this guy take an AB in a major league spring training game, as I did, would have to agree with me that he may yet to have hit his growth spurt.)

Alejo Lopez: 3-5, 2 SB. Hit in front of India. Is he better than India? Discuss.

Jonathan India, Tortuga: 1-4, BB. Testudinate out of the gate.

Andy Sugilio, Tortuga: 1-3, BB. Stay healthy.

Miles Gordon, Tortuga: 1-3, BB, SB

Leandro Santana, Tortuga: 1-4, 3-run 2-out double was the big hit

Packy Naughton, Tortuga: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, win. Lefty Naughton, that is. So, prospect.

Wendolyn Bautista, Tortuga: IP, H, save (1). Whatever. From what we've sen of Wendy in seasons past, he might be starting in Louisville tonight.

Mariel Bautista, Dragon: 2-5, HR (1). Very encouraging start for the promising young CF (looks to be sharing the position with Siani).

Jay Schuyler, Dragon: 2-5. Played 1B, batted 3rd. Versatility a strength, especially the way the Reds see things these days.

Brett Spillane, Dragon: 2-4 as the DH. Nice to see him off to a decent start.

Juan Martinez, Dragon: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI. Young Venezuelan will be 20 all year and has good track record. Promoted every year. I'd keep an eye on him.

Reshard Munroe, Dragon: 1-3, BB. Bahamian has had some buzz in the past, but has been spinning his wheels for a year now.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Sunday, April 7

Jose Siri, Chattanooga . . . 2-5, double, HR (1), 3 RBI. Back-to-back MiLPoDs for the speedy center fielder. How speedy? The homer stayed in the park. https://twitter.com/C_Blessing/statu...83117511700480

Honorable Mention: Andrew Jordan, Daytona . . . 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K. In spite of the walks, this was a good look for the 21-year-old Gastonian, who posted a 5.75 ERA last year.

Honorable Mention: Mark Kolozsvary, Daytona . . . 2-4, double, 4 RBI. Third-year catcher, 5-foot-8, delivered the big hit in decisive 4-run seventh, then singled home the game-winner in the ninth.

Also notable on a day when Ibandel Isabel made the list without a home run.

    Daytona

Bruce Yari: 2-3, walk, R. The Tugas’ cleanup hitter.

Andy Sugilio: single, walk, run, RBI.

Cory Thompson: 2 IP, 1 BB, 2 K. No more shortstopping.

John Ghyzel: 1.1 IP, 2 K, Sv (1). Led the Midwest League in saves last year.

    Louisville

    Vlad Gutierrez: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Louisville ace in the making?

    Brian O’Grady: 3-5, HR (1), R, RBI. What's not to like?

    Aristides Aquino: 2-5, HR (1), 2 R.

Chris Okey: 2-4, double, R, RBI. It's in there.

    Josh VanMeter: 2-4, 2 runs, steal (1).

    Nick Longhi: HR (1), BB, 2 R, 2 RBI.

Sal Romano: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Much like his last appearance. At the moment, I’d trust Big Sal more than M. Lorenzen, who has 3 options remaining.

    Anthony Bass: 1 IP, zeros.

    Chattanooga

Taylor Trammell: 2-5, HR (2). Career high of 13 homers looks to be in jeopardy. https://twitter.com/C_Blessing/statu...59285140774912

Alfredo Rodriguez: 3-4, 2 R. Keep ‘em coming, Alf.

    Ibandel Isabel: 2-5, double, R.

Luis Gonzalez: 2-3, double, 2 R, 2 RBI, sac. Overlooked?

    Joel Kuhnel: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Highly capable.

    Ty Boyles: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K.

    Dayton

Mariel Bautista: double, 2 sac flies. Nice combo. Nice start to full-season ball. The young outfielder has now hit for the cycle.

Mike Siani: single, walk, 2 SB.

I guestimated about 15.5 seconds. I think BHam had a triple last year where he got to 3rd in 11 seconds or so.

Fastest time recorded on an inside-the-park HR is Buxton's 13.85 seconds.

    That's elite speed in practice.

Trammell could find 20+ HR power this season with him being dialed in early.

The Friedl/Trammell/Siri rise is fun to watch as together they cover all aspects of the game...running, throwing, Defense, OBP and Power.
