Despite all of the farm clubs losing and the Reds losing again, there were quite a few impressive performances down on the farm.

The initial Minor League Player of the Day goes to the soft tossing lefty acquired in the Sonny Gray deal, Reiver Sanmartin SP, who went 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, no walks, no runs and striking out 6 for the Daytona Tortugas.

Honorable mention Alejo Lopez 2B Daytona Tortugas, who had two hits and two walks on Opening Day. Alejo hasn't got much press around these parts, but he sported a .375 OBP last year and a .388 OBP the year before. He actually had a .455 SLG in 2017, to pair with the great OBP, but didn't hit for much power (including no HR) last year.

The Bats lost their opener 10 – 5.

Just my annual post in this thread to say how much I appreciate the work and effort put into this everyday. It's an incredible amount of work and its a great and easy way for me to keep track of the future Reds.

Honorable mention: Jay Schuyler, Dayton: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI. Last year's 7th rounder out of the University of San Diego is looking to become the farm's only other catcher of note behind Tyler Stephenson.

Jose Siri, Lookout: 3-4, BB, 2B, SB. Will the Year 2 Effect push Siri to great heights in the Smokies? He looked uncertain of himself in spring training, lending more credence to the notion that they have to be patient with his development. Ceiling remains high.

Honorable mention: Jhon DeJesus, Eduardo ("Eddie") Salazar and Eddy ("Eduardo") Demurias, Dragons: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K. All these guys with their full season debuts on the road in Bowling Green, which usually fields a good ballclub (this year featuring one of baseball's top prospects in Wander Franco). Note that DeJesus did not pitch at all in 2018.

Wendolyn Bautista, Tortuga: IP, H, save (1). Whatever. From what we've sen of Wendy in seasons past, he might be starting in Louisville tonight.



Mariel Bautista, Dragon: 2-5, HR (1). Very encouraging start for the promising young CF (looks to be sharing the position with Siani).

Jay Schuyler, Dragon: 2-5. Played 1B, batted 3rd. Versatility a strength, especially the way the Reds see things these days.

Brett Spillane, Dragon: 2-4 as the DH. Nice to see him off to a decent start.

Juan Martinez, Dragon: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI. Young Venezuelan will be 20 all year and has good track record. Promoted every year. I'd keep an eye on him.

Reshard Munroe, Dragon: 1-3, BB. Bahamian has had some buzz in the past, but has been spinning his wheels for a year now.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Jordan, Daytona . . . 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K. In spite of the walks, this was a good look for the 21-year-old Gastonian, who posted a 5.75 ERA last year.

Honorable Mention: Mark Kolozsvary, Daytona . . . 2-4, double, 4 RBI. Third-year catcher, 5-foot-8, delivered the big hit in decisive 4-run seventh, then singled home the game-winner in the ninth.

Also notable on a day when Ibandel Isabel made the list without a home run.

I guestimated about 15.5 seconds. I think BHam had a triple last year where he got to 3rd in 11 seconds or so.

That's elite speed in practice.

Trammell could find 20+ HR power this season with him being dialed in early.
