Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Wednesday, August 28

MiLPoD: Mac Sceroler, Daytona . . . 7 IP, 3 hits, 0 earned runs (1 unearned), 0 walks, 8 K. Seventh quality start in last 9 outings for the Baton Rouge righty, and only 1 win to show for it (his worst game). Lowered his ERA to 3.69, with a dandy 1.11 WHIP. Leads FSL in strikeouts.

Honorable Mention: Brian O’Grady, Louisville . . . 3-4, HR (28), 3 RBI, SB (20). Tied Aquino for team lead in homers.

Honorable Mention: Christian Colon, Louisville . . . 3-4, 3 doubles, 2 RBI. Unsung season (.831 OPS) for the veteran infielder.

Also notable on a night when the organization went undefeated until midnight, when Billings faltered on its likely way to the postseason . . .

    Louisville

Nick Ciuffo: HR (3), 2 RBI. Is it just me, or was this guy a nice pickup as reserve catchers go? Has AL East experience at age 24.

Alex Blandino: 1-3, double, 2 walks, 2 runs, RBI. Few days away from a September callup?

    Chadwick Tromp: Triple, RBI.

Jimmy Herget: Hitless inning, 2 K.

    Daytona

Bruce Yari: 3-4, double, the usual walk.

Diomar Lopez: 2 scoreless IP. Headed to Arizona Fall League.

    Dayton

Jay Schuyler: 2-4, double, HR (5), 2 RBI.

    Mike Siani: 2-4, RBI.

Miguel Hernandez: 2-4, RBI. Batting .424 in last 10 games.

Clate Schmidt: 1 run over 5 IP, picked up the W.

    Matt Pidich: Clean 2-inning save (7), 2 K.

    Greeneville

Jose Tello: 2-4, triple, 3 RBI. The Venezuelan catcher-plus has enjoyed his 11 games in the Appalachian League—a 1.107 OPS.

Casey Van Blake: 2-4, double, RBI.

Danielito Remy: HR (1), 2 RBI.

Hunter Oliver: 2-4, double, 2 runs.

Fidel Castro: 1-2, walk, RBI. Played CF.

Tyler Garbee: Final 3 innings, no runs, 4 K.

    Billings

Quin Cotton: 3-4, double, walk, 2 runs, RBI.

    Miguel Medrano: 6 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 walk, 7 K. Left with a 3-2 lead.

    * * *

The DSL Reds’ playoff game, the third of a 3-game series, was suspended in the eighth, tied 4-4. It’s scheduled to be completed Thursday.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Thursday, August 29

MiPOD Alberti Chavez had a perfect day at the dish going 4-4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI. The 24 year-old Chattanooga bench player hasn't had too many days like this and you can't do better than perfect.

Honorable Mention Jonathan India went 3-5 with a steal, 2 runs, and a RBI. He has been having a great second half and it will be great to see what he can do in the AFL.

For more information on yesterday's action, I would recommend going to doug's site https://redsminorleagues.com/2019/08...eview-8-29-19/

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Friday, August 30

Packy Naughton, Chattanooga: 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 1 run. The 23-year-old Virginia Tech product has put together a very solid season, dominating the Florida State League and holding his own (3.66 ERA) in the jump to the Double A level, though he did falter a bit as the season wore on. But he's got an impressive 157 innings under his belt this season.

Honorable mention: Randy Wynne, Dayton: 7.2 innings, 7 hits, 0 walks, 12 strikeouts, 3 runs, 2 earned runs. As I mentioned when Wynne fanned 17 for the Greeneville Reds, he is 26 years old but it's still impressive to rack up this many strikeouts. This was his shortest of his last 3 outings and he's got a whopping 37 strikeouts over those last 3 starts.

In other action, as the door starts to close on yet another minor league season

Jose Peraza, Louisville: 2-4, 2B. First game as a Bat since 2016.

    Brian O'Grady, Louisville: 1-4, 2B

    Jose Siri, Louisville: 1-3

Jesus Reyes, Louisville: 6 innings, 5 hits, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts, 1 run

    Stuart Fairchild, Chattanooga: 1-3, BB

    Tyler Stephenson, Chattanooga: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

    Cameron Warren, Dayton: 3-5, 2B

Michael Siani, Dayton: 3-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI. Responded to being placed in the cleanup spot with a cleanup hitter performance.

    Juan Martinez, Dayton: 3-4

Jerry D'Andrea, Dayton: 1.1 innings, 0 hits, walks, or runs, 4 strikeouts

Quin Cotton, Billings: 1-4, 2B, RBI

    Victor Ruiz, Billings: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI

Jose Salvador, Billings: 5 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, 7 strikeouts, 2 runs

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Glance at games of Saturday, August 31

MiLPoD: Vladimir Gutierrez, Louisville . . . 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 walks, 13 strikeouts. In 4 of his last 5 starts, the Cuban righthander has gone 6 innings and pitched very well. He’s fanned 33 in those 24 innings and walked only 7.

    Honorable Mention: Johendi Jiminian, Chattanooga . . . 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K. Not sure where that came from.

Also notable, as Billings still struggles to nail down its division. . .

    Chattanooga

Samir Duenez: 4-5, RBI. All singles.

Michael Beltre: 2-4, walk, 2 RBI.

Michael O’Neill: 2-5, walk, 2 runs. Paul’s nephew is doing a nice job in the leadoff spot.

    Calten Daal: 2-5, 2 RBI.

    Louisville

    Jose Peraza: 3-4, RBI.

    Narciso Crook: Double, RBI.

Junichi Tazawa: 2 scoreless innings. Righthander, 33, signed 3 weeks ago.

Alex Powers: Save (8). ERA 1.49, with 65 K in 48.1 innings. Can this guy have a spot on the 40-man?

    Dayton

Jordan Johnson: Shutout ball over 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 0 walks. The trade return for Connor Joe. Johnson, who has been rehabbing, is headed to the AFL.

Pedro Garcia: Undrafted righthander from Gwinnett College added another 1.1 innings (2 K) to his scoreless season, totaling 15.2.

Claudio Finol: 2-3, HR (1), walk, 2 RBI. The third-year infielder doubled his career HR total.

Michael Siani: 2-4, walk, 2 runs, 3 SB (45). Center fielder padded his league lead in steals, with just a couple games to go.

    Carlos Machorro: 2 clean innings.

    Billings

Quincy McAfee: 3-4, double, walk, 2 runs in leadoff slot.

Victor Ruiz: 3-5, 2 RBI. Once a catcher, now a 3B and hitter.

Reniel Ozuna: 2-5, double, 3 RBI.

    Eric Yang: 2-4, HBP, run.

    Valentin Martinez: 2-5, RBI.

    Patrick Raby: 2 spotless IP.

Ryan Dunne: 2 K in 1 clean inning for the Leatherneck from Western Illinois.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Sunday, September 1

MiLPoD: Tejay Antone, Louisville . . . 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 walks, 10 strikeouts, W. Also doubled. Over the years, Antone has been all over the map. But this marks his second straight 7-inning start, allowing only these 2 runs and racking up 19 Ks. One thing he’s never really been is a big strikeout guy.

Honorable Mention: Eduardo Salazar, Dayton . . . Allowed just 1 hit in 5 shutout innings. The Venezuelan, 21, finished his season with just 1 earned run given up over his last 18.2 IP.

Also notable on September callup day . . .

    Louisville

Chad Tromp: 3-5, double, 2 RBI. Aruban catcher brought his Triple-A OPS to .999.

    Jose Peraza: 3-5, double, 3 runs, SB. He's 8 for 13 in 3 games.

Brian O’Grady: 2-4, double, RBI. See you soon.

    Jimmy Herget: 2 scoreless innings.

Billings (5th straight loss, division lead down to 2.5 games with 5 to play)

    Reniel Ozuna: 2-4, triple, RBI.

Garrett Wolforth: HR (6). First 5 came for Greeneville.

Jonathan Willems: 2-4, double, RBI. Still only 20.

Alec Byrd: 4 K in 2 strong innings. Lefty, drafted 2 years ago by the Rockies, was signed in June.

    Dayton

    Cam Warren: 2-3, walk.

Mariel Bautista: 2-4. At .233, it’ll be the first time since 2015 he’s batted under .320.

    Chattanooga

Brantley Bell: 1-3, double, 2 RBI.

    Ty Boyles: 2 scoreless IP, 4 K.

Tyler Jay: 1.1 hitless for lefty, 25, a former first-round pick of the Twins.

Brandon Finnegan: 1 clean inning. Not on 40-man.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Games of Monday, September 2

MiPOD Reiver Sanmartin allowed a run in 5 innings with 7 Ks and only one BB. He pitched very well in Daytona and then took a while to get into a groove in Chattanooga. Yesterday was one of his best performances in Chattanooga and things appear to be clicking.

Honorable Mention Jose Siri went three for three with a double. He really has had a disappointing year, but this game is certainly a highlight.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

    Game of Wednesday, September 4

We wouldn't ordinarily name a MiLPoD on an evening with only one game on tap. But this was not just another game. Billings had lost 6 straight, its division lead reduced to 2 games, with 4 left to play--all with second-place Missoula. And Missoula led, 4-0, in the bottom of the seventh when Tyler Callihan--this year's third rounder, who had spent the season in Greeneville--hit the reset button with a 2-out grand slam. The Mustangs won it in the 10th, 6-5, on RBI singles by Eric Yang and, with 2 outs, pinch-hitter Garrett Wolforth . . . Noah Davis had a nice start, 1 run in 5 innings . . . Billings can clinch a playoff spot with 1 more win.

Re: 2019 Minor-League Player of the Day

Now that the season is finished we can crown Brian O'Grady and Packy Naughton 2019 MiLPOD Player and Pitcher of the Year! Both finished with 8 MiLPOD honors, though O'Grady breaks the tie by grabbing 7 more honorable mentions. His total of 15 crushes the field. Jonathan India gets the Always a Bridesmaid, (almost) Never a Bride Award. He finished with a system-high 8 honorable mentions, but only took the coveted MiLPOD once. Vladimir Gutierrez wins the Oddball Line of the Year Award. He put up a 6.04 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP, but also finished tied for 3rd among pitchers with 5 MiLPODs. When he's on, he's on and when he's off, he's off I guess. 78 players won a MiLPOD this year, with another 32 at least claiming an honorable mention for a total of 110 honorees this season.

Tejay Antone is a surprise. On the flip side, so are Isabel, Stephenson, and Garcia.
