Obviously the sample is very small, but I see several ways in which the coaching may be having a positive effect in the early going.

Fewer homers allowed by pitchers. Also three starters, Castillo, Gray and (yes) Mahle with high GB rates.

Better use of GABP by some Reds hitters (Winker's two homers in particular).

Improved defensive positioning. (Those index cards may be a key!).

It's very early and the talent is better, so it's hard to tell for sure. But part of the Reds' strategy is to boost the players via top notch coaching. I'm hopeful it's going to work and there are some early signs I see that maybe these coaches are having a positive influence.
Your right. Those were spring numbers. Two HR in 9 and a third innings for the same 1.9 HR per nine as last year.

And it's not just better pitchers. It's been relatively cool so far and the balls fly farther in GABP when the weather heats up. Pittsburgh and Florida are weak line-ups. Pittsburgh has two or three guys and a bunch of bench player types (with a couple guys hurt on top of it) and Florida has a bunch of AAA players in there. Nine of the 12 games they've played have been against some pretty iffy line-ups in Pittsburgh and Miami.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I'm happy with the acquisition of Derek Dietrich. Nice production for rock bottom prices. That guy has some serious bat speed.

And oh yeah, he has a BABIP currently of .125. Small sample size I know.

I am happy for yasiel puig’s throwing arm.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

I was going to post, before the last couple of posts stole my thunder:

    Derek Dietrich's spirit
    Jose Iglesias' glove
    Yasiel Puig's arm.

Last night was a great win. Nice to beat a real big league team.

    Jesse Winker's opposite field power.

I’m happy to be watching entertaining baseball.
Win or lose the Reds have been fun to watch and I have a feeling they are only going to get better.

Continue to be really interested in what is happening with Bob Steve, even moreso than my puzzlement with Iglesias.

I'm happy that Bell seems to be open minded to new information, and new ways of constructing lineups. I hope he never gets so stuck in his ways that he thinks he knows everything there is to know about baseball (because you can never know everything).

Re: 2019 In-season Thread for What You Are Happy About with Regard to the Reds

I'm happy that a guy in the Reds rotation can have an off day and still only give up 2 runs in 5 innings. In previous years an off day meant 5 runs in 2 innings (or less).

... that the season is already 1/10th over.
This year's version of train wreck will be over before you know it. Then we be able to focus our attention fully on next year's train wreck.

This version of Sonny Gray is uber-interesting.
