The honorable thing would be that Wood agrees to an extension for a reasonable price on a 1 year deal if the Reds think he can be healthy next year. Like maybe the same salary he took this year for not throwing a pitch! Or better yet, maybe only 8 million guaranteed with a million incentive for making 25 starts.

he will recover in about a month, then probably get hurt while sleeping.

Why is that honorable? He got hurt on the job, not before ST, but during it. MLB contracts are guaranteed, and teams know and understand this. See Albert Belle as a reference. The Reds sign every player knowing one wrong move ends their season. Same as the other 29 teams. Think DiDi is going to give the Yankees a discount because he got hurt?

Alex Wood will pitch for a team next year that offers him the best opportunity for him and his family.

David Bell said Alex Wood may throw on flat ground this weekend. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it wasn’t too big of a setback for him.” #Reds

Reds are putting up a good front here, but I don’t see what contribution Wood can make this season. He’s an impending FA who “may” throw off flat ground around July 1. Best I can think of is that Wood could help facilitate a trade of Roark or Disco at the deadline; maybe he could fill that spot for a couple of months. But at this point, while it would be interesting to see him pitch, that’s about all.

Well, there's contracts and there's honor, and rarely shall the twain ever meet. Maybe a small "honor" discount for the Reds for 2020. He's already earned 20 million playing professional baseball. You wouldn't think there would be much difference at this point between a $9M and an $11M contract in the grand scheme of things. But rarely does honor win out over the Quan.

No one expects Alex Wood to do anything other than maximize his money for himself and, of course, for his family. But once upon a time in 1959 Ted Williams actually volunteered for a pay cut after playing and having a sub-Ted Williams year. This with much smaller salaries than today. And he did go on to have a great final year in 1960. This after losing perhaps his best seasons to going to war. And actually flying in combat in Korea, even as a wingman to none other than John Glenn! And when he should be talking about himself at his hall of fame induction, Ted goes into a long discussion about the injustices done to negro players and the need for a special wing at the hall of fame. Talk about "honor"...Ted effin Williams.

The honorable thing would be for the Yankees to give the Reds several great players in exchange for the Chapman deal.. Call me pessimistic, but I just have a nagging feeling they won't do it.

    Ehem...
Oh c'mon. Wood is only dinged. Don't lose hope now. As every kid from Pittsburgh to St Louis knows dinged in Cincinnati only means his arms and legs have been completely severed from his torso.. Nothing to be alarmed about..
I propose the word dinged be completely stricken and banned from any and all Cincinnati sports talk.

Out until mid-August, at the earliest. I think it’s basically official that we’re never going to see him pitch for the Reds.
