If the Reds added a couple of quality middle relievers to replace the ones Bell has burned through, I think they can still make the playoffs.

They need to add, not subtract.

And yes I know what free agency is.

Do you know what annual 90 loss seasons are?

    Me too. Tired of them.

Right now the Reds would have to replace their entire roster with the Dodgers roster to have a chance.

Get one last start out of Roark before he's traded.

We can't waste 1/3 of it on a huge question mark.
There is a big difference here. We’re not talking about signing a guy at his peak value. More or less the opposite. A guy with a 3.3 career ERA who might be at an all time low cost. No one is advocating giving him $20 mil a year.

They aren't making the playoffs. They'd need to go 40-22 to even have a sniff of the playoffs. A couple of middle relievers isn't going to do it. It's over.

I keep telling people the QO for him is gonna look mighty juicy. Unless you can get a proper return I think you wait this one out.

It's easy to be tired of 90 win seasons. And hanging on to assets like Alex Wood for a non-existent playoff chase, when he can be re-signed after the season anyway, is how your team ends up on that 90 loss hamster wheel.

We're all sick of it, but whining about the only legitimate path this franchise has to break the cycle is a bit silly.

    BAH.

I meant 100 win seasons. We've had enough of those.

I understand the importance of prospect drafting and development. But if trading off players like Alex Wood at the deadline is the “only legitimate path” forward, the Reds have no future. It’s overstatement. Trading off FAs coming back from a long injury absence isn’t the key to anything.

Wood is pitching a strong game today.

Do the Reds have a chance of turning this outing into a trade for prospects?

At this point the Yankees might be that desperate.
