I think Winker will be fine, but he’s like a little brother trying to be Joey Votto, who messes with the fans and talks back to umps, but he’s trying too hard and hasn’t been around long, so it’s a little off.

I have to say after the impressive first to third on a single the other night and the SB today Lorenzen is easily the best athlete on the team.

if he wanted to play out the rest of his AB, whatever would have happened, and then said something to the ump, then I don't think anyone would have had a problem with it. I have zero issue with arguing with an umpire. I quite enjoyed his waving and interacting with Mets fans. I have a problem with taking yourself out of a 1-0 game in the middle of your at-bat when his presence in the game could have made a difference.

Hitting a home run to win a 1–0 ballgame is a special event. Of the many times this has happened in the majors, a pitcher performed the feat 13 times. Table 8 is the list of pitchers who have hit a home run to win a 1–0 game. Seeing Red Ruffing (36 career home runs) or Milt Pappas (20) on this list is not surprising. However, Harry McCormick and Odalis Perez each hit his only career homer in a 1–0 contest, while Gene Packard and Bob Welch only hit two career four-baggers. There are many long gaps between occurrences on this list and yet it happened twice in 1962!

Do you know how many of these pitchers pitched a complete game shutout? That is what Thor did today as well as apparently Bob Welch.

I saw that game with Vin Scully and Ross Porter on KTTV 11 back in 1983.
It was the only way to see Reds games in LA by that point since they were no longer on MOnday Night baseball and NBC Game of the week.
