Ervin called up; Reed optioned to Louisville

    Duke needs to go
The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).

I know RZ won't like this but I'd stretch out Reed and give him one more go as a starter. If he can put it together, next year's team can take a quantum leap up with a serious FA starter. Won't happen with the four we're going to have otherwise: Castillo, Gray, Mahle, Disco.

Duke has 1.32 ERA in May. He ain't going unless he goes back to April.

    I'd give it a go.

4.83 FIP in May for Duke.

I have found FIP to be an unreliable stat at best especially in small sample sizes, Stephenson's is 7.19
Both are penalized for low babip and high LOB%
Duke babip is low because hitters are not hitting the ball hard off him in may

Problem is that re-converting Reed to the rotation could result in two years of more “development” time.

As we’ve seen, even a Castillo takes a few years of MLB starting to get there.

It’s not a bad idea, but I think that ship has sailed. Reed is likely to stay in multi-inning relief for awhile.

I’m looking for the Reds to go for a big ticket starter in the off-season. I’d like Castillo and Big Ticket Starter to be a 1-2 punch for several years and help make the Reds a consistent playoff contender.

Seems like this could be a trade opportunity with a partner that is desperate for an upgrade to their bullpen. Indians?

You could say the same thing of any stat with small sample sizes including ERA

I really hope Ervin can succeed this time up. Hopefully with Kemp out of the equation he can be more successful. This club desperately needs some pop from LF.

I do too.... but to be honest I've practically given up on him. My next scratch off lottery ticket is Aquino.

I haven’t, Ervin has done well in recent mlb trials.

Not worried that he started slowly at AAA. Did well there last season.

Ervin did very good when allowed to start consistently last year.
His defense was rough. I still like him.
